What software are you using?

I have just one of the plug in hand held scanners, I'm not using laptop/phone software.

Ah ok, what's the name and model, it could be the code reader cannot access the other modules?

Thanks for your very useful article on code readers by the way - that inspired me to get one. I used to have a Mk4 astra - and you could read codes from pressing on the pedals (I had to do it a lot  ).

Got an Autel MS309.

Glad my guide was of use to you may it save you many amounts of dealer journeys and keep many pounds in your pocket.

As for the astra, no comment... :-P

I couldn't see any links through the amazon page I looked at showed no reference to live data, but as a generic unit you should get some data. Do you have the link to where you bought it from?

Ah ok so it says it can capture live data freeze frames, it sounds like it's only for certain error codes, it's not going to read the raw data. Also because it's generic, it won't necessarily read more than the error code in store and pick out the closest definition.

Ah ok, perhaps I should have gone for a software based version. I just liked the simplicity of not having to use any other equipment to read codes. Is it possible a generic reader could 'miss' errors then?

Unlikly if it can access all modules it could just provide the wrong definition, but the error code would be the same. This unit doesn't appear to accessed things like abs, SRS etc, but the main error codes should be accessible :-)
