Dmf Finally Packed In I Think

Bought a 56 plate 2.0 Mondeo tdci 130 bhp approx 10 weeks ago from a backstreet garage. First changed a snapped coil and leaking shocker, then the starter motor now the dreaded dmf has failed I think.

Drive the car yesterday all day totally fine not one problem then got in it today, pressed the clutch and it would not come back again. Finally released it and got it into first but as soon as I put clutch back down the car wouldn't stop until it stalled with braking.

Is this a sign of dmf or have I got it completely wrong. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Could be the slave cylinder, the rubber may have failed causing the pedal not to come back up.

Before I had my DMF. Changed there was a wallowing noise when mostly driving on the motorway, since the change no noise.

So if I changed dmf & clutch would a slave cylinder be included or would that be a seperate part?

The clutch kit is a 3 piece kit, so it should come with it. Look on eBay for the kit.

I would get advice from a garage as it's not cheap

Ok thanks for the advice super. And yeah for a dmf & clutch kit can get for £280 but don't think a slave is included with that kit so an extra £40 for that.

One more thing. I mean I like my cars but I'm no good at most mechanical side of. What are the 3 parts to a clutch kit?

Take the time back to the garage your protected under sale of goods act and they need to fix it or prove you broke it. Most the time they will just fix it.

Been back mate just basically have me the fingers. As he knocked £500 of the window price said nowt else he can do.

He's talking rubbish. Take the car back and tell him the responsibility is his due to an inherent fault on the vehicle as per the sales of goods act and if be refuses to resolve it that you will be expecting a refund as your rejecting the car under an unsatisfactory quality of used goods and not fit for purpose.

Price is irrelevant anyway whether you buy the car for 500 or 5 grand sold as seen through a trader is not an acceptable practice and is in essence outlawed these days.

Trading standards are always a good tool but like the above it should have a warranty for the sale.

Sounds like something I need to do. Inform somebody in authority as he won't budge. I've spent about £300 already in 10 weeks of owning it. Thanks for the advise guys really appreciated :-)

Not a warranty, it's a right of protection. For the first 6 months any faults are assumed inherently faulty unless proven otherwise. This is the responsibility if the trading seller to resolve or prove as being caused by you the owner. The cost of an independent inspection on top of the fees they have to pay to resolve it should this be your favour would have put a bigger hole on his balance sheet.

If he refuses to budge after you remind him of your consumer rights then you need to leave a letter on his table with a signature. I will reply later after throwing my kids in bed with an example, which you should use as part of the battle. See his response and take it from there.

I would be putting something like this in the letter:

"The amendments to the Sales of Goods Act (EC Directive 1999/44/EC) that came into force on 31st March 2003 now place the burden of proof on you 'the car dealer' for the first six months after a purchase."

The vehicle I purchased (registration: ) has in the last 10 weeks of ownership (since taing posession on date: ) had the following defects:

(use the following format:)

DMF Failure - Symptoms: Vehicle unable to start, losing all power, unable to drive and clutch feels spongey - occured date: approximate mileage since purchase)

Next - Symptoms: - occured date: approximate mileage since purchase

Next - Symptoms: - occured date: approximate mileage since purchase

As per the sale of goods act, I have not yet accepted the goods due to the condition so far being of unsatisfactory quality, and deemed not fit for purpose due to the faults provided which deem the vehicle unusable. I have traveled (define number of miles done) miles in the last 10 weeks and had many issues as described above.

I request under my consumer rights, a repair or satisfactory replacement of the vehicle, and request a written confirmation this will be acknowledged and processed within 72 hour. If a satisfactory response is not provided by (Specify a date and time, minimum of 72 hours (recommended 5 dats) from when you plan on providing this letter to them) I will be returning the vehicle to you and rejecting it under the sale of goods act, citing "the vehicle is not fit for purpose" and "is not of satisfactory quality". I will also be providing receipts for all assosciated costs with the running of this vehicle, with the expectation of reimbursement for the additional money invested in repairing this unsatisfactory vehicle.

If you do not provide satisfactory response, I will be seeking further advice, and will instigate either a refund through legal chanels, or contacting my credit supplier for additional support and a refund with chargeback to you the retailer.

This will give them a fright if nothing else and should push them into sorting it.

if you paid for any part of the car on credit card (over £100 - for example a deposit) or car finance - then you should contact these companies describing all issues and the rejection of the vehicle and the retailers response.

If you paid by debit card, contact the card supplier and discuss with them your options. Finally, if you paid cash, or debit card, then I would strongly suggest you contact Citizens advice to get the ball rolling for a rejection of the vehicle.

Alternatively, contact Dave on this forum (The Dark Knight) hes a great guy and more than happy to help you with some advice! he has the patience of a saint (I have harassed him twice now for my own car issues! :P) so he will do all he can to help!

Also, when you take this to the garage, get them to sign a receipt with date and time they accepted the letter from you. you also want them to write who they are and what role they have in the business (manager, salesman or tea boy). The 72 hours starts ticking from when they sign that receipt.

I will be getting the car fixed and moving on to something else I think. Thanks a lot for the advice tho guys. At least I know for next time. :-)
