Irritating Issues

Hi, I'm new around here and just bought a 2013 Focus Zetec S 1.0 Ecoboost. Pleased with it so far but have a few things I'm struggling to sort out and I know loads of you can help me out.

1) The drivers window goes down automatically but doesn't go up in auto. Is this standard or is there a fault?

2) How do you set it for the doors to auto lock when driving?

3) I used to have a Focus ST (now that was a great car, miss it so much . . . .. . ) and it had wiring for footwell lighting and it just needed the lamps putting in. Is it the same case for the Zetec S?

Steve

Welcome to the Forum.

I have also just become the proud owner of a 1.0 125ps Focus Zetec S and agree it's a superb, good looking car.

I'm sure I read somewhere here that you can programme auto- lock using a set sequence but I don't know what it it.

It's been mentioned that there may be some footwell lampholders sans lamps in the car. I haven't had a look yet but I think it's just above the clutch pedal and may just need a 501 lamp fitting

I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon to guide you along the right lines.

Enjoy your car, I'm certainly enjoying mine. Using every excuse possible to drive it.

If you mean one shot up windows the Zetec S doesn't have this without speccing the convenience pack or something which includes power rear windows...

Doors do not auto lock on Fords anymore for safety.

It seems some Mk3 Foci have wiring in place but no bulb holders. Otherwise you will have to wire them in to something like the overhead lighting.

Actually the auto lock on >7mph can be enabled using ELMconfig and Focccus software (I have it done on mine),

Push the intetior handle in does the same thing i believe it was disabled due to emergency crews not being able to get into the car via the door in an accident i had it switched off blooming annoying im assuming the mk3 will lock if you push the internal handle in

I have a push button on my front console to global lock & unlock all doors, it has a little red diod light on it to say when locked.
do they all not have this then ?

They meant locking once you move off and reach a certain speed. That isn't global locking.

hi Bill,,, i know as i had it on my C4,,, but on Fords its been discontinued so i was just asking if he had the switch on the dash instead. :)

Impact sensors unlock the doors automatically if a collision is detected. A legal requirement in all cars, like wise the fuel is cut off

On the cars with the Sony dash there is a central lock and unlock button

My first ST was the same - had 1-shot lowering but had to raise the window again manually. My facelift ST is 2010.25MY car with keyless, global closing and so on, and has 1-shot up and down on both sides :)

Even with just 1-shot up functioning the windows still have anti-trap safety built into the system to prevent injury from fingers etc getting caught when the glass gets to the top of the door frame.

Not 100% sure if the strategy is the same on Focus but Freelander used common modules with Mondeo etc before it's own specific software was added on top, and this used complex monitoring of pulses fed back from the window regulator to determine the acceleration, speed and deceleration of the glass as it reached certain zones near the top of the door. If parameters are exceeded then it will send the glass down again. That's one of the purposes of having to re-learn the windows when the battery has been disconnected, so it knows where the glass reaches a hard closed position. It also monitors the operation continually and corrects it's parameters to take into account the gradual change in window speed as the seals wear with time.

Simples ;)

Bikey Steve, if you can get over Heathrow way any evening, I can turn on the speed locking for you very easily

I suspect the wiring for the footwell lights is there, you just need to either buy the ford LED fittings or chop off the plug and wire a bulb/led to them. Take a look at the dark liner above your feet for a Small 5c2 cm hole, thats where they go, the wiring should be near that if its in there

Thanks for all your comments. Looks like I'll just have to put up with the lack of 'one shot' closing windows  . I'll have a route round for the wiring for the footwell lamps too. Found some method on line regarding autolocking by a sequence of pressing the door lock button and ignition on/off. I'll give it a go . . .

As mentioned previously, a great car and quite pokey for a 1.0 engine. Test drove a 1.6 before and it was gutless so was very suprised to the extra power a smaller engine had!!!?

Is your car fitted with electric windows all round?

If so this could be the answer-

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=301185708201&alt=web

It is designed for the mk2/2.5 but worth a punt for the price.

You MUST have all electric windows for a chance of it working.
