blue flash Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Hi Guys.My dad has a 62 plate focus,one of them key-less ignition jobs.he dropped his keys on a main road,and before he could get them a car ran over them.Now he can only lock and unlock the doors (and boot) the car does not recognize the key to start it.Any ideas. Stoney871 Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 I'd strongly suggest that the transponder chip is broken and therefore not recognised by the PATS II immobiliser. An auto locksmith should be able to find and fit a new chip unless the key is badly damaged in which case a new one may be necessary. I'd ring around for quotes. madmole Posted October 12, 2014 Share Posted October 12, 2014 Pull off the plastic circle where a normal key goes and insert whats left of the key into the slot (doesnt turn). Now try starting the car If the RFID chip is intact this should work, if not the RFID is dead and you'll need to use the spare key (they come with 2) Yet to find any auto locksmith that can re-key a Mk3, probably need to go back to Ford to get a replacement key programmed. Livefast Posted October 13, 2014 Share Posted October 13, 2014 Before you condem your old man to a new mortgage I would try and take the key apart, it may be a simple solder joint that has broken on the chip etc. You can always use the emergency key to open the car so nothing to lose. Stoney871 Posted October 13, 2014 Share Posted October 13, 2014 There is no solder joints on the transponder chip. It's a sealed passive item so no power connections or wires attached to it.
