New Car - Flat Battery !?!

I picked up a new Fiesta Titanium X 1.0 Petrol Ecoboost Powershift 2 weeks ago. 640 miles on the clock up to today. I travelled about 100 miles on Saturday then parked up. Didn't use it at all yesterday, then went out to start it this morning to find the battery completely flat. Phoned Ford Assist who sent out the AA. AA jump started cleared codes and tested and found everything ok. No clues as to what drained the battery.

Dealer says if AA tested no point bringing car in although I can if I want, best to wait and see what happens.

Anybody came across anything similar??

Did the AA test to make sure the alternator was charging the battery properly?

Might have been some sort of parasitic drain if the alternator is ok...

My mrk 7 did this a week after buying and would not hold charge. Got stranded at Homebase. Took to ford and they put a new battery in for me

alexp999 Alternator checked and working ok

MattJakeT Dealer said if AA checked and said OK not really worth bringing it to them as they would do same tests. Just have to wait and see...

I just told them I expected a car with a working battery. I only had it for a week!

...will be looking for a new car if it happens again - not just a new battery!

If you got the car and its within 14days you have the right for them to replace or fix the problem or get full refund

It's just over 14 days now. battery seems ok so far but will probably worry until the next time I don't drive it for a whole day because that's when it happened. Was out Saturday. Didn't drive it on Sunday at all. Then flat battery on Monday morning.

My mate had a new Focus that kept getting a flat battery. Had the problem for a few months before they realised the battery terminals hadn't been done up tight enough.

Batteries that are new rent running at full capacity so of its cold it's drained but this is only thing I can think of buddy I have a wee volt neater that goes into lighter. Plug from amazon it would tell you how much volts ur battery is gving out ant at £1.50 not breaking the bank

Just thought of something. Was sitting in house yesterday making a phone call and iPhone 4s came up with option of continuing call on phone or ford sync. Take it that suggests that my bluetooth in my car parked outside must have been on although it should have been off as car was parked and locked up. Maybe the bluetooth is staying live and draining the battery?

After you lock car there is a power cut off after 20mins but you have TitX so you will have keyless too so. I dint know

The bluetooth shouldn't still be live 20 hours later then.

Tried it again just now and phone was not able to find car bluetooth when shut off and locked.

I'm thinking that the bluetooth was live for a day and a half and that's what flattened my battery??

Also, saw another thread about an allegedly known fault with titanium x fiestas with reversing cameras or satnavs flattening the battery so have mentioned this to dealer too.

Car booked in for Thursday. Will keep you all informed.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions so far.

Something similar. I've just bought a 1.6 Titanium also with PowerShift, the car is on a 13 [late and has 20,000 miles. Was all apparently OK then not used for 2 days and the battery was almost flat. Alternator and battery checked and found OK. General opinion is 'parasitic battery drain down'. At the moment I'm checking the battery voltage day by day to see what happens.

If the seller can't fix it then it will have to go - car that won't start, what use is that?

Bryan, do you leave it in neutral or park when locking car?

If you have then coloured message centre when your radio station is displayed, there is a known concern for this. The alledged cause was that the radio being turnt off whilst driving was causing the corncen (dont ask how this is direct from FMC) they were advising to leave radios on whilst driving and turn volume down if no radio was required! There is now a software update to fix this as of 2 weeks ago

I do have a coloured radio display as my car has a reversing camera. Have already mentioned this to my dealer when I dropped my car off for investigation. They didnt seem to know anything about it though...

I always leave it in PARK - beeps otherwise anyway and I would have noticed that.

Broadcast message 5917 is to drive with radio on mute, broadcast message 5954 has the instruction on the software update. Phone your dealer and tell them u have had repeated battery fail. Jus tell them the aa/rac have told u there is a software issue as i know they have been told about this

I'm experiencing very similar problems with my 13 plate 1.6 titx. it's ok if used every day but if parked up for 2 or 3 days and it's around freezing then battery fails.

My dealer says it's not an unheard of problem although cannot find any fault. I've just invested £1.59 on one of the plug in voltage monitors so I can see what it's doing. So far daylight running is constant 14.8v, night time is 14.7v but voltage first thing in the morning is only 11.5v.

I'm beginning to suspect that the battery's not able to deliver it's full voltage when cold - maybe it's even the type of battery (silver chloride) but I don't know much about them. I'm going to have a chat with a battery expert but what I'm reading about this type of battery is in good condition each cell should deliver 2.5v

Got my car back today. Dealer said there was a small battery drain from the instrument cluster which they found a software update for and the problem was now solved.

Let's hope so... Watch this space!

Hope you're all sorted David. I'm seeing instant voltage drop to 12.2v as soon as I switch off so I'm off to battery specialist on Monday for his opinion before tackling Ford again!

Took mine to a battery specialist earlier in the week who confirmed there's nothing wrong with the charging side of things. The battery wasn't anything special although he didn't think it needed changing. He thought it just needed a good deep charge, which is the same as Ford diagnosed. It just doesn't seem right to me but it's coming up to the end of the agreement so I'm going to let Ford sort it in there time, not mine.

Coincidently, I did have a re-occurrence today of something which I said was happening and Ford said wasn't. Starting from cold and driving no more than 400yds and the radiator fan kicks in. Ford claim it was because the air-con must have been on but it definitely wasn't today. I even turned the vent system completely off. When the rad fan kicks in voltage drops from 14.8 to 14.2 so that's probably the biggest single load possible on the elec system. seems it can turn itself on when it likes!
