It's a little small for my false floor but hey ho! It's actually tiny!

Wish me luck Lenny! Haha

I'll have two of them aswell by end of February,

May be able to modify them to be dimmer switch for down lighters in the kitchen or something  tis only way there gonna sell

I reckon it's a sales tactic from JL audio; offer free RLC with all JX series so as people won't bother with JX and purchase HD instead because the RLC's aren't compatible with HD amps

The use a telephone cable to connect them and they're made from cheap plastics if I'm honest... I wouldn't want to put anymore than 24v through it nevermind 240! Haha

I'm abit confused as to what it actually does with my amp.. As the box says it will control the "bass boost", and the instructions for the amp say that it will control the "bass boost" but then they also say that it will only effect the actual level of the amp & nothing else so I haven't a clue!

If it controls bass then I might use it... Set up my system with the "bass boost" right down and hide the remote somewhere visible only to the driver

Then if anybody dares to fall asleep in the car I'll just blast the bass for a second or two ;)

Sounds good i think you should fit three :)

Seriously though i wouldn't bother because the RLC parameters will always be governed by the limit set on your headunit,

So if the bass level on the headunit is set to 5 for example,

Then the RLC will only give you that limit of control no higher.

If you want to have full range control on the RLC you will need the bass parameters put up full on the headunit to then allow you full control via the RLC.

Therefore in my opinion its useless because you already have 0-10 level control of bass on the settings within your headunit digitally.

And that's completely hidden its already there.

It's your car do what you want,

I've fitted an RLC to my first car and later took it out as i could adjust the bass level directly via the headunit far more convenient.

I'm a bit confused as to what it actually does with my amp.. As the box says it will control the "bass boost", and the instructions for the amp say that it will control the "bass boost" but then they also say that it will only effect the actual level of the amp & nothing else so I haven't a clue!

Then if anybody dares to fall asleep in the car I'll just blast the bass for a second or two ;)

It allows you to adjust the level of voltage passing through the amp via wired remote knob linked to a regulator via CAT5 cable.

It will control the bass boost but nothing else,

This means it will allow adjustment of the bass only,

Of course it wont reduce the volume or increase the volume of your stereo Speakers it just controls the parameters of the mono Amp.

The headunit has a built in system which controls the level being sent to the amp via the RCA cables.

It wont be possible to boost the sub level via the RLC unless the bass level is set to 100% on the headunit first.

It's double jobbing.

Also with your pioneer headunit,

You can plug in the self calibrating microphone,

Put your amps up full and allow the headunit to adjust its own internal equaliser settings to optimise the sound from your build.

To put it simply Lenny.. It's going nowhere near my car now I've actually looked into & thought about it! Haha, seems like a pointless let down from JL audio

I plugged the amp in today but didn't use the capacitor as my 4awg cable hasn't arrived yet & i wanted to start looming things together where possible.

So far I've tidied up the power cables and shortened them so the reach the back of the sub enclosure where I'll be putting one Vibe Fastplug to disconnect the capacitor from the car for removal of the sub enclosure and that's basically it in terms of the permanent install.

When I plugged the amp in and set a level I thought yeah this is alright. I sat in the drivers seat and god... What a difference!!! The bass is so much more punchy than before! It's a lot more clean sounding aswell as it's no longer using bridges channels

I set the low pass filter on the amp to 200hz and just set it to 100hz on the headunit as a starting point. I then set the high pass filter for the Focal's to 100hz and the sound was great! I noticed parts in songs that I've never noticed before! And that's after I thought I had heard everything just with the sub but the Highs.. What an amazing sound! I'm considering setting the low pass filter on the sub to 80hz and the high pass on the Focal's as 63hz next time just to see what it sounds like with a slight overlap

I'll put a demo video up once everything's mounted in place

Hassen, I thought I'd take your idea of a test song and played "Rather be" a few times over whilst playing with things and I could feel my ears smiling! :D

I haven't got any pictures as of yet as the whole car's a mess, back on the road next Friday so I'll be able to get it valet'd as I just want to drive, not spend hours cleaning :)

Great to hear you enjoying the system man. I know myself what a big difference having a dedicated Mono amp for the sub compared to running it on the bridged channel. The punch from the sub and the mids/highs from the Focals are a potent combination. I liked on the Rather Be song that there is a good range of frenquencies.

When you get it all sorted Kieran and you got 30-60min, you should look into using this test cd that I found to fine tune all the frequencies. I took nearly 1hr for myself but the end result was well worth it.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/ftc2d124i66m77h/Ben%20Rizzi%20-%20Ultimate%20Test%20CD.wav?dl=0

It's on my dropbox and you should be able to download it. It's recorded at a high quality and helps with sorting out all the crossover points etc.

Can't wait to hear and see the video :)

I'm really chuffed with my combination of JL audio & Focals!

Thanks for the suggestion of the Focal PS165F Hassen! I'm really happy with them! And thanks for everybody's recommendations on JL audio! The value for money is outstanding!

I'll have to give that test cd a try when I've got everything back where it lives! Sounds good! Thanks for that :) I'll spend as much time as I possibly can before either •deafening myself or •getting noise complaints from houses near me! Haha

Highly Recommend signing up to Pioneer Website: http://www.pioneer.eu/eur/products/25/page.html

There you can check for latest Firmware updates for your headunit and its bluetooth settings.

Once Registered on the site.

Pioneer will then email you a notification of any future updates.

I also recommend purchasing a Pioneer CZX-5497A - Auto EQ Microphone to self calibrate the system to suit the acoustics of your car,

See link:

http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-czx-5497a-auto-eq-mic-for-pioneer-stereos-and-multimedia-av.html

These custom settings will be stored in "Custom 1" EQ

Leaving "Custom 2" for you to alter aswell as retaining all of the other presets "natural" "powerful" etc.

Helps you get the most out of the system,

The microphone plugs in to the headunit,

Attach it to the drivers headrest,

Press Calibrate,

Then evacuate the car for 10 minutes while the system sends frequency's to each speaker to calibrate its perimeters.

Once complete,

Unplug microphone and store it for such time the batter has been removed and memory has been lost on the headunit as then it will require recalibration.

I've got one of the calibration mic's on order, as I didn't want to borrow yours and risk damaging it/it getting lost in the post :)

I didn't think to sign up to pioneer's site! I've checked once since I bought the headunit and couldn't find an update so I just thought they had abandoned it... But i didn't know you could sign up for notifications! :) thanks Lenny

Had a very productive day today!

First of all I removed the front door cards again & added more silent coat as there was a slight vibration, aswell as re securing the passenger side crossover (screwed it into the factory vibration dampening foam using the screws from the Vibe Fastplugs that I haven't used.

In the boot; I have secured and charged the Boss Capacitor. I've also wired the JL audio Amp. Whilst wiring I decided to sleeve the cables and do some cable management! So, work in the boot is now done! I need to add some silent coat at some point but there's no rush to get that done.

(I'll add photos HERE when I get chance to take some in daylight)

Inside the car I have set up my EQ exactly how I want it, I have decided to keep the high pass filter on the Focal's set to 80hz & the low pass filter for the sub set to 80hz.

Now that the Focal's have broken in, they sound completely different to how they did when I first installed them! The frequency response just gets better and better! The high's are very crisp & pronounced, whilst the lows are powerful yet not too overwhelming.

All of the components I've used seem to compliment eachother very well!!

I've also had a chance to remove one of my rear lights and seal a small leak that has appeared :)

All in all, I can't wait to get the car back on the road!

That's pretty much how I've got my frequency settings. Are you impressed with the difference the power capacitor has made? I was with mine.

The amp is fantastic Lenny! Probably the best buy of the year (for last year, just took forever to arrive!)

The value for money is outstanding, as with most of JL's products!

The sub seems to have some real strength to it now instead of a "boom" then nothing.. It now has that "boom" slow fade that's supposed to be there, it just wasn't picked up on by the bridges blaupunkt..

Which I must say.. The blaupunkt amp is doing a great job driving the Focal's.. Thanks Hassen!! :)

I haven't really noticed much difference now the capacitor as I've fitted a new amp & capacitor at the same time so I don't know what's causing what! One thing I have noticed is that when the car is idling and I turn the headunit up it no longer causes the idle speed to increase so I suppose the capacitor's doing it's job!

That's a great combination from my own setup and being confirmed by your setup. To be honest, the Focals are brilliant and I thought that you would appreciate it being in the sound industry. I would highly recommend JL Audio subs and amps. Sadly they don't seem to be as popular in Europe. Hope this changes.

The test cd was very helpful to me. With regards to the mic calibration, I am not a fan of it as I tried it on my home theatre and it wasn't to my liking. I prefer trusting my ears and making sound good to me :)

With regards to noise complaints, in the estate me live, I am known to be the weird person who works on his car on the driveway on weekends, messing with the sound and making the kids dance with the music

How's the Silent Coat going? I really liked how it quietened my car and planning to further sound deaden the car once the weather gets a bit better to strip the car with CCF and MLV.

I actually have a capacitor unused here and wonder if I should bother putting it onto the 4 channel amp. Is it worth it?

You've just reminded me about the calibration mic Hassen.. I couldn't find any in Europe, the only one I could find was in The USA & they informed me yesterday morning after a few weeks of waiting that they don't ship to the UK! Even though the description says they do! I ordered it simply to see what the headunit thinks sounds good compared to my ears!

I've got the link to the test cd on my desktop for me to download tomorrow :) not sure when I'll get chance to try it though as my battery still isn't holding charge due to the cold weather & it not being on a run out anywhere! I've checked for a drain and there isn't one, the low charge that's actually in it is simply being murdered by the cold weather! I've taken pictures of all my settings/EQs and disconnected the battery, charging it overnight and I'll see how it holds up :)

Silent coat is going really well! It's made the car have a much more high quality feel to it, as Lenny said it would! The doors now shut with a strong "thud" compared the metallic ding heard before! I didn't think it would make such a difference. Also, before I started silent coating I could feel the vibrations from the sub on the body of the car.. Now I only feel the really deep strong notes!

I'm hoping to order some big squares of it to do the boot floor & under the passenger seats next

Then probably make a start on the back doors with the leftover squares

It wouldn't hurt to install the capacitor! And driving 4 channels I'm guessing you draw quite a lot of power? It'll take the main load off the battery for sure :)

Next thing you know people will be hiring your car for a PA at parties ;)

For those interested the pioneer calibration mic is freely available within the uk from Dynamic-sounds in London

See link: http://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/pioneer-czx-5497a-auto-eq-mic-for-pioneer-stereos-and-multimedia-av.html

I reckon it sets a Graphic equaliser setting which is easier to tweak compared to a flat line across the board. Sounds good to me and a company full of nobody's whom call themselves pioneer pfff!! :)

If fitting a capacitor id put it on the Mono Amp as it requires more instant surges of power compared to the Multi channel Stereo Amp.

I've got a 1.0Fared on my shopping list to fit on the Mono Amp power supply.

I only looked on eBay for the calibration mic which I suppose wasn't the best idea! Although if the seller I bought from had of shipped; it would be £10 cheaper than in the uk!

It's the delays that I'd use the calibration mic for I think.. Is it possible to use the mic then adjust the EQ, whilst all of the delay settings staying the same Lenny?

If you run two amps from one capacitor isn't that the same as just running two amps off one cable? Read somewhere that that's not a great idea due to "interference" due to the power consumed by each amp at difference times.. And of course everything on the internet it true! Sounds like somebody bought a cheap Chinese amp with bad power management if anything.. Opinions?

£10 cheaper once customs don't spot it entering the uk mate,

Everything from America is subject to import taxes when entering an EU country.

The mic calibration settings go in to "Custom EQ1" your not stuck with it,

Its an optional preset just the same as "Natural" "Flat" "Powerful" etc.

You still have "custom EQ2" to have a fiddle around with aswell

It doesn't lock down your headunit to one setting it just expands your options.

Don't think I've ever imported anything from America! Didn't consider taxes if I'm honest!

Is it the same as from china? Where they can mark it as a "gift"? Or much stricter? (Guessing much stricter)

Thanks for clarifying about the calib. Mic :)

Not sure about uk customs,

But over here china stuff doesn't get hit much asong a_ the value is declared to be below 40 Pounds or declared a Gift,

However I've yet to see anyone get anything over from America without having to pay something,

A mate of mine got stung with a customs bill of 72 euro when importing a straight through exhaust for his Yamaha R1

We tried importing it through work which was an American Company :)

Thought we would escape from tax as its shipping "Machine parts" from America to an American Company but no lol

I've been disillusioned when searching eBay for JL Audio Equipment aswell,

Spot some great prices then when you click on it there in America not worth the unknown charges.

And providing proof of purchase for them to calculate tax and they include shipping charges in there calculation which is wrong of them because thats government here taxing you on the payment given to a courier in a non EU country to deliver the item to your country.

Then if you don't pay within 7 days they send it back to seller

What's next in stur for the fiesta mate any plans in pineline?

Observation ive found last nite aswell:

Normal Speaker cable is 16AWG

I've been on Vibe Audio website and spotted they now manufacture a new brand at 13AWG which is slightly thicker than standard; designed for sub install.

I searched eBay and found the only stockist to be RadioWorld, now this cable must be some fine A55 Quality Shizzle gauging the price RadioWorld are charging per metre: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vibe-FlatBass-13-AWG-Speaker-Cable-Wire-Gauge-13AWG-1M-Bass-Spk/271021823166?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D27678%26meid%3D4cc7746c59f54c91bc3e927118b00c9f%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D11379%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D200970434225&rt=nc

I've contacted Vibe Customer Care whom informed me Car audio security also stock this cable at a more reasonable price,

Phew  saves me getting a loan of £8891.96 from the bank to purchase four metres of the stuff.
