blue crush
What is the best budget dash camera money can buy? Im looking for one in HD with tv out to connect up to my headunit. Small enough to hide behind mirror with suction mount not fixed. Have looked at Eprance models so far. Any help would be greatly appreciated in my search. SeanW
Have a search of the forum for Mobius It's a very discrete camera with mods available to make it even more discrete. It's also very good for the price (around the £50). I can't see much point in having it connected to the headunit though?
blue crush
Wow ive just seen some fantastic reviews and stuff about the mobious cam which i never heard of. Thanks for the suggestion as it has made my mind up and perfect. Tv output to headunit makes it easier to see whats recording than a tiny 2inch screen most of them have. SeanW
The Mobius doesn't have a screen, but once setup most of these cameras are shoot and forget. Only need to pop the SD card into a computer if you need any footage off it

blue crush
I look at the exact same one as that lenny lol. Was hum n har over the wiring as want a simple removable type. I had a fixed dvr record box with front and rear cams - one in grill and normal rear cam but Y split so can use for dvr and rear cam function on my headunit. Got fed up with the quality of video which made me remove it and get a new straight forward camera. Had the clip on mirror camera but didnt get on with it as was anti glare mirror and my window tints made it difficult to see whats behind. Brillant kit tho. Will see how get on with mobios one Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

jeebowhite
for anyone wondering, there is a cheaper camera I was quite happy with - it was perfect but seemingly I broke it with some sort of update. lol £20 though its a fantastic buy, its saved my bacon in two crashes and also used as police evidence when my vehicle was TWOC'd. £20 and even with the niggle it has (now, wont automatically overwrite the data) but for the hassle of wiping the card once a week or two, it still does the job perfectly. I suspect if I buy a new one it will be fine, but I must admit, the next one I buy would probably buy the mobius. I wouldnt say its overly better IMHO than the one I use but its got a lot of positives and is more discreet. If you want to see the one I had look at my signature. laumk7
Does anyone know if these dash cams can be set to record when the car is left like a mini cctv security camera if you like. I'm interested in getting a decent hd camera like the op, but I'd be even more interested if they are capable of doing the above also Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC

I'm interested in getting a decent hd camera like the op, but I'd be even more interested if they are capable of doing the above also Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC The dual camera HD DVR kit I've fitted can be wired to ignition where it will automatically record when engine on, It also has a built in battery which will allow the DVR to wake up and record for a duration of 5 minutes when movement is senced outside the car, Each time a movement is senced the 5 minutes is reset so it records everything. Displays split screen when recording but plays back two separate full screen videos for each camera, Also has mic. In both cameras but they can be switched off. Im about to post my information here in the next post aswell as images of my stealth installation.

They informed me i had two weeks to respond with information or they will return the parcel to sender, I immediately emailed them a copy of the PayPal receipt for 60.38GBP inc. Shipping. They respond informing me delivery of the imported parcel would take place in coming days and i must pay the import tax fee of 19.42GBP :o i was instructed to have the exact fee in the form of cash available to the Post person upon delivery at the door. So after that spit Roasting from Custom Officials the HD DVR system finally arrived well packaged and 100% intact see link to recommend seller and images below: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221206242052?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Spectification: Video Resolution: 2CH 720X480P Image Resolution: 3M(2048X1536)/2M(1600X1200)/1M(1280X960) Video Format: H.264 Support TF card: 2GB-32GB Display: 3.5'' LED Screen Two camera can record at the same time Uninterrupted Cycle recording, No leakage seconds appears Back camera reversing trigger function Language: English, Russian, Korean, Japanese and Chinese After purchasing the DVR system on eBay i read the tech spec details in the eBay listing in search of storage information and discovered it takes a TF (Trans Flash) Memory card up to a maximum capacity of 32Gb Turns out TF is another name for "Micro SD" so all good not abnormal. These memory cards are quite expensive to purchase locally in shops fetching as much as 56.42EUR for a SanDisk 32Gb Micro SD in local Tesco :o Yes there's plenty of them available on eBay but I've heard lots of violin stories from people whom purchased cheap memory cards and flash drives on eBay listed and selling as 32Gb or 60Gb capacity Then when they arrive there actual formatted capacity is 4-10Gb So for a period of time there i was caught between a rock & a hard place; physically sick at thoughts of having to pay local shop prices and Fear of getting stung by dodgy eBay memory card sellers while in search of a bargain, I searched the forum to find discussion threads regarding dash cam's and asked the people on those threads "what seller do you recommend to purchase genuine Memory Cards from" Within 30 minutes i was provided with a link to purchase a Kingston 32Gb Micro SD HC Card for a very good price of 9.99 GBP Thanks to "SeanW" for recommending and here's a link to the reliable supplier:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291166483317?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT It arrived to Ireland in three working days via tracked mail, very well packaged all 100% :) My plan is to fit the DVR unit inside the roof of the glovebox; attached to its supplied suction cup bracket, The idea being: It's completely hidden and secure, functioning like a flip down monitor when required. The DVR also came with a video output cable which will connect to the headunit rarely needing to touch the main DVR box. In order for the suction cup holder to mount the glovebox roof i needed to purchase a 3M adhesive backed suction cup adaptor plate from China see link to recommend supplier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221219111828?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Very cheap, light weight and arrived within two weeks :) There are two items remaining on order to complete the DVR install, The USB socket fused power cable which steps down power from 12v to 5v there are various types of these available; i had considered purchasing one which had the specific micro USB male connection which would plug directly in to the DVR system without the need of a middle cable, But on after thought i chose the USB port type as its guaranteed to be future compatable in the event of replacing the DVR system or charging another device the standard Universal Serial Bus socket is king :) Link to recommend supplier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/171419465010?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT The second item is a Piggy back fuse adaptor which i will plug in to an ignition positive feed in the passenger footwell fuse box providing the system with power each time the key is turned in the ignition Link to recommend supplier: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Kit-Mount-B-Cable-size-2m-12-Volt-Quad-ATV-Trike-Twin-Charging-Socket-/191193077237?pt=UK_CartsParts_Vehicles_ATVQuad_Trike_Parts_Accessories_SM&hash=item2c83fed5f5AutoStar electronics may be a little more expensive to supply the USB power socket kit, but AutoStar electronics only supply quality built items good peace of mind it wont set your car on fire. I always purchase all electrical cables sockets and connectors from AutoStar electronics through all my guides Dave is top man and always provides quality. I got bored this morning and decided to install the cameras for the DVR system, The daunting part that i was dreading is phishing the loom from rear camera through the goose neck between boot door and main chassis, It went better than i thought thankfully there now fitted nicely, However I've gotta make a few purchases to get it the DVR unit operating where i want it to inside the glovebox. Need a piggyback fuse adaptor and a double USB socket with loom, All available from my good friend @ AutoStar Shop USB Socket kit:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181422922118?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Mini Blade Fuse piggy back adaptor:http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180735824927?redirect=mobile Plan is to use the second USB socket for the TomTom Satnav when required run a feed from glovebox socket instead of 12v from the centre console. Red USB cable obtained for the DVR system to ensure it never gets unplugged in error see link: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=191324559246 The Cameras are quite discreet although vicki says it feels like a Taxi Front camera isn't that noticeable: And the rear camera fitted, Not noticeable from outside at all with the tint: The only complicated job that remains in the whole process is phishing the Vibe FlatFlex through the Goose Neck in all four doors. I'm very happy with how the cameras sit, and the picture quality is better than the camera I've used to take these images, Link to the DVR kit I've purchased aswell as further images can be saw on page 54 of this thread or by following this link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/41443-taking-oval-to-blue-horizon-lennys-build-thread-2010-2015/page-54 P.S Please excuse the dirt of the car, hasn't been washed since the ford meet in Swords last September Edit: The DVR system Installation process has continued on page: 60 of this thread, Keep reading through Or Follow link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/41443-taking-oval-to-blue-horizon-lennys-build-thread-2010-2015/page-60#entry434512 Progress update: Night off work so was awake all day, Had the car washed for the first time since September. Then this evening i got bored, decided to continueoncwith progress from page: 58 of this thread and trial fit the DVR cradle inside the glovebox. Here's a link back to page:58 where i installed the DVR Cameras: http://www.fordownersclub.com/forums/topic/41443-taking-oval-to-blue-horizon-lennys-build-thread-2010-2015/page-58#entry433273 Turns out the stalk boom is longer than expected so I've had to mount the base further deep inside the glovebox. In the above position its still sitting inside the glovebox housing when flipped down. So there's no chance of it ever obstructing the glovebox door. Next problem was the interior roof of the glovebox isn't flush smooth. This makes things difficult when your trying to surface mount something that requires a flush suction cup base in there: IMG]http://i575.photobucket.com/albums/ss192/lennymanwoods/discussions/IMG_20141205_163451_zpsyoqca6a_edit_1417805671847_zpsbgesisrz.jpg So i trimmed down the suction cup base to be as small as possible: Quick trial fit: Still not bonding flush i had to then cut out a section of the glovebox to allow the circular edge of the mount protrude resulting in the majority of the plate making perfect contact. Cutting this space would also kill two birds with one cup.. Er i mean stone As i can also fish the cables through from the cameras. So here it is: Another trial fit: Fitting flush like it should :) At this point i added some UHU Super Glue to help hold in place, Plan is to keep DVR screen folded up tight to roof of glovebox more/less hidden but mainly not obstructing the general function of the glovebox itself. I've routed the rear camera cable feed down along the drivers side of the car however this has resulted in me being 9" inches short on length, So tomorrow in daylight ill take the cable back to the boot compartment and route it along the passenger side instead where i will gain 20" inches of feed by not having to route it across the car to the glovebox. I'm glad began to work at installing the bits i have to hand at present because it would take more than 7 days to install it all in May had i held off with absolutely everything. I've not got the double USB Power supply purchased yet, Ill get it ordered before Christmas and install to the glovebox compartment to power the DVR system aswell as an additional USB power socket to Power the Satnav on dash when required. Flipped down for viewing: Flipped up out of the way:
jeebowhite
Depends how you wire them, most record for as long as they have power, so if you wire it to a permalive then you will get the best out of it. But you need a decent card as most cards would fill in as little as 6 hours if you have quality at HD or 1080
