youngy_315
Just looking for some recommendations. I took my car to the local ats euro master today for all the wheels to be balanced and 4 wheel alignment. After 3 hours I called to see if the car was ready and it turns out that they broke the locking wheel nut key. Does anyone know where I can get a replacement set of nuts and what type are best. I'm not fussed if they are locking again or not as they seem more hassle than worth. My car is a mk2.5 focus with mk2 ST 18" alloys. Thanks in advance. karlos1987
Those keys are useless. Have they got the locking nuts off the car? The same happend to me when I was lowering my mk2.5. I had to get a friend of a friend to sand the collar off then use a chisel to break the nut off. I just replaced them with a locking set off eBay. If you replace with another locking set I'd advise going for a set with no spinning collar.
karlos1987
I went for this set as the key sits around the nut rather than in it. I would suggest getting locking nuts as st alloys are very sought after with thieves.
Stoney871
Ford use McGard nuts and like you say they can be a pain when something breaks. TBH, if the garage broke them then they are responsible for removal and replacement plus any incidental costs involved (i.e. damaged alloys). Damage usually occurrs as garages use air ratchets on the nuts rather than wheel braces. The locking nuts can easily be over-torqued and break on removal. Do you have the serial number card that comes with the lock nut? With that Ford can order a replacement. If the nuts are off then throw them away and buy what you fancy. youngy_315
This is my next issue... It broke on the first nut and none of them are off. I had a go at them because they let it slip they used an air gun with a moron behind it. I called ford and it will cost £35 for a new one and will take 2-3 weeks. Now I have to try and get them off without a wheel nut because ats "don't do it"
Stoney871
I suggest that ATS get their act together sharpish. They broke the nut so it's their responsibility. I would suggest to them that they 'fund' the replacement nut and take any other possible expenses (incidental charges in the case of a puncture or any damage that may occur when attempts are made to remove the lockers without a nut, those wheels are about £400 each from Ford) on the chin or legal recourse may occur.
karlos1987
Well they should pay to get it off. If it was their fault they are liable for all costs as stoney said. When I got mine off the guy used an air sander to grind through the collar but he caught the alloy aswel so there was slight scuffs but as it was me that broke it off I couldn't complain. youngy_315
I know. I had an argument with the "manager" there and he just kept saying that it must have been damaged before or the nut over torqued last time. Neither is the case as I watched the guy torque it last time with a wrench. I was in a rush so decided to leave and I'm contacting head office tomorrow. I am contemplating calling the aa to get them off so I can just stick another set of my choice on ASAP because It was hard enough getting time to take it there today let alone messing about again. I think i might invest in a set like the ones posted above.

youngy_315
I know. Thankfully I had a mate from work with me to stop me kicking off. Fuming doesn't cover it. Especially as he was actually believing the rubbish coming out his own mouth.
karlos1987
I tried the aa mate. They didn't have much luck. Alls they told me is what is posted above about being over torqued. Hopefully you have better luck than I did with them. I even went to ford and asked a mechanic if he would do it for £20 drinking money but I would of had a better conversation with a brick wall. Lol.
youngy_315
Any of you know the correct wheel nut size? Or best place to get them? I'm going to stick standard wheel nuts on rather than locking. No need for them. Cheers
SeanW
Ford - about £3.50 a pop Guaranteed genuine and the right size
jeebowhite
you have two options - 1) get the nuts removed and replaced by Ford usig their master keys, or 2) if you have the keycode for the car then you can purchase a replacement lock key. youngy_315
Thanks. Got it sorted. Purchased 4 standard wheel nuts from ford, removed the locking wheel nuts with a dynomec tool borrowed from a local garage. Job done.
