2000 Rpm Limit

Having real problem with my Mondeo 130 tdci. And really need some advice.

Started as glow plug problem, and cutting out on overtaking etc.

Then start cutting out at 2000 rpm.

Have follow other members post idea`s and changed filter and EGR valve and finally Dave Mays idea of replacing injectors. All to no avail. There is no fault codes showing up, on maxscan or forscan software.

Car starts ok, but on acceleration, at 2000 rpm is cuts out with glow plug flashing....

Your code reader(s) may not work because your car is probably OBD1, and OBD2 readers will not work on it - so not reading any fault codes on your OBD2 reader does not mean there are no fault codes

Cleaning the EGR valve is literally a waste of time - best to get a solid EGR blanking plate fitted, and clean out the inlet manifold. especially as you have a Euro3 Mondeo if the year on your profile is correct

There are different types of 2.0L 130s, yours is probably a Euro 3 with pnumatic actuator and front EGR, but some pictures would be useful to confirm

The glow plug light flashing is used as a warning for many reasons - it does not nessisarily mean the glow plugs are faulty

How much did the injectors cost? were they new/refurbed/secondhand? how did you (re)code them?

Thanks for the reply, using forscan, which is linking. As a test, I have disconnect in turn each sensor....Fuel rail sensor, Mass air flow, and cam sensor. All have shown up in log with error codes in the software. Programmed reconditioned injectors £120 each, again with Forscan, when checked, new 16 digit codes have been stored. Car starts ok but rev above 2000 rpm, and it cuts out.....Do I go for the fuel pump next...?

Some questions:

  • the 2000 rpm limit, that is the same before and after you replaced the injectors?
  • the 2000 rpm limit, that is the same whether you have the engine out of gear and revving on your driveway or accelerating the car in a high gear?
  • the fuel rail sensor, does that keep a similar reading whether you have the engine at idle (at least below 2000) and running in to the 2000 rpm limit?
  • who did the fuel filter, and are you sure that there are no leaks or entrapped air?

And the only codes that have shown up are ones that you have deliberately induced and never anything else? Not even anything that seems irrelevant?

Hi

Yes fault before and after injectors

Trying to drive, in gear as soon as the car hits 2000 rpm cuts out. So virtually undrivable

Not sure about rail sensor, if idling below 2000 rpm removing plug on sensor cuts engine.

I changed filter, then bleed system with attached hose a syphon.

Im a bit new to these new engines, so out my depth a bit....is it possible to reset log codes and down load a new?

if your car has the electronic actuator for the turbo try removing the small arm from the actuator and see if it will move the vanes in the turbo.

Actuator is moving freely when car is started, returns when engine is stopped, new turbo fitted 14 months ago.......todate over the past 5 years....this car has cost me over £3K in repairs...will never buy another mondeo.
