Since my job is driving vans I tend to be the model driver at work.. When I'm not at work I hear you ask? Mix between sensible and outrageous, I'll go fast when I know the law isn't looking :P private roads ofc

Is it a white van Dave? If so I must say how much I admire your driving style, lol

Like the outrageous comment, can't think of a better description on how to drive the ST :)

I try to be sensible and cautious, the IAM rated me as "Above average" for a newish driver. That was before I got the ZS though and there have been a few occasions where I've gotten a little... Overexcited shall we say. After a 1.25 P-reg the acceleration is just too much fun :D

I never speed, but if the road is clear I like to achieve the speed limit as fast as I can :D (conditions allowing, of course)

I drive defensively and always expect every other road user to do something stupid. I quite like doing 50 in a 30 if it's safe, I hate 30 sticklers :D

I enjoy the Ma Saydeez/BM/sports car etc 30 sticklers who attempt to mate with my orsa boot. They usually aren't prepared to stay with me above 30 :D Hilarious.

Mental_Atom mentioned the IAM, what I find interesting is to speak what you see/observe whilst driving. I can't speak fast enough usually ;)

Give it a go. If you CAN speak fast enough you 'aint observing correctly LOL.

Yeah, merc sprinter.. Spose the only reason I drive sensibly is because it's limited.. :( lol.

And yeah the more you drive it the more outrageous it gets I think ;)

But got to admit I'm one of those people that will spend ages finding a space where no f*cker will park next to me, come back to find out that some beat up micra decided the other 85 spaces aren't good enough and gets right up close and personal with my baby Ahah

If you get knowledgeable observers it's pretty good.

Type of driver I am depends on the car...

My previous car (modded 306 HDi) - foot to the floor everywhere, overtake anything in the way, get frustrated at every other motorist.

Now I've got the Focus which is comfy, quiet and has an MPG reader I tend to just pootle about at a constant'ish speed - I'm now one of the people that were previously frustrating me!

Depends on the passengers and how much I like them!

Since having the ST though, it's been nice having a faster car but it also means more people hold you up.

I'll be switching sides soon though with a Defender so I'll get to annoy everyone else instead.

I find most of your comments quite odd, this post even more so. If the police or local council thought it was safe for you to do 50, they would have made the limit 50. It's obviously not safe so have made the limit 30 for good reasons.

Maybe these 30 sticklers that you hate don't stay with you when you accelerate because they don't feel the need to break the speed limit, not because they amazed by your driving skills or your corsa amazing turn of speed, which is probably far less than their car is capable of. They may also expect other drivers to do something stupid and when you speed off realise they've found another one and keep well back.

I get the feeling he writes that sort of post to envoke a response... ;)

Interestingly, the 30mph speed limit is over 100 years old...so I doubt anyone today has decided that's the best one to go for in built up areas...20 would be much safer, but pretty much everyone would be against turning every 30 into a 20 lol.

As for people sitting up your backside through...I find holding speed through the corners usually lets them back off a bit...I'm amazed at the people that are tailgating at 50....but disappear after taking a bend at 50!

I'm sorry, Mark & Tom, but if you think that a 30 sign means it's unsafe to go any faster, your wrong. If you don't know of any 30 places which are not safe at 50, where are you driving? Similarly, the "max speed" signs are crazy, you can usually double what they suggest. I'm not trying to invoke a response, I'm just stating that if faster than 30 is safe (to me) i've no qualms about exceeding it. Collected my Tit today, the 30 sticklers are even more of a pain now. Horse and cart next, I think.

While I partially agree with you they are generally signed for a reason. Hence why I personally while working (and driving my own car) I stick to those speed limits whether the person behind me likes it or not.

That's not a dig at you its your own choice all I'm saying is it's not just a number they choose at random. For example your doing 50 down the road someone further ahead is waiting to pull out of a junction they may misjudge your speed expecting you to be doing around 30 (give or take 5) and pull out (accident waiting to happen). Take for example an emergency vehicle they use lights & sirens to earn of their presence people will notice them and theoretically consider the speed they may be doing if that makes sense.

I never said that, in fact I know of a few 30's where a lot more is doable, and I can't say I stick to the limits all the time either. But that doesn't make it sensible or legal to do so.

It's not for the safety of you in a large metal box with airbags etc... It's for the safety of the pedestrian/cyclist/horse/speeding motorbiker that you come into contact with unexpectedly.

Equally you can do 3 figure speeds quite easily on a dual carriageway or motorway, even before leaving the sliproad...but that's only fine until something goes wrong...say you get a blow out or someone doing 50 swerves into your lane...

Speed doesn't kill anyone. It's stopping quickly that causes problems. It doesn't take a genius to work that out though really... ;)

You can drive at whatever speed you like, sometimes you could safely do 200 on a motorway but, 50 in a 30 is just stupid. 30 zones are mainly built up areas with many different hazards, that if your doing nearly twice the limit you can't react to in time, pedestrians, animals other road users etc

I would have thought someone of your age would have more sense, sadly I was wrong.
