Free's up a few revs and they only smoke test diesels for mot its win win imoa, Quite a common mod on older astra 1.7's

They check for presence of a cat on diesels now so if its obvious its been cut out it'll fail MOT. If it still looks original it'll be fine.

On my previous decatted diesel I gained some top end noise but lost a bit of low end torque. So pros and cons, as with anything.

just depends on whether they see it or not an passes smoke test, didn't someone say the euro 5 engines will be getting some sort of new test that might highlight a missing dpf?

I know I am haha...kinda wish I'd gone for a 1.8 over the 1.6 now I'm having DPF issues. But the higher tax and fuel costs would roughly cancel it out anyway if my maths is right lol.

Its up to you really, as I said, on a previous car it wasn't really worth it for me, and on the identical one that followed I kept the cat but got a stainless cat-back instead. Looks, noise and slightly more top end without reducing the low torque. Obviously different engines will perform differently with a decat though.
