Hi all,

My faulty ST again :(

Does anyone else get stutter/jerks of power loss in 6th at 40. Not labour but power cuts

6th at 40?

Isn't that a bit low, don't think my car could cope with that...

I agree with Alex. I may not drive on roads but when I've driven, never been in 6th under 60!

I would agree but it tells you to and it's not like a stalling stutter but more like a miss fire

I don't know how the ST is geared, but mine only just accepts 6th at 50.

6th is an incredibly high gear, all economy no power.

What happens if you try 5th at 30?

I have a 2014 focus zetec s 1.0 ecoboost and I find that when it tells you to change into sixth Its usually between 40 and 45 I leave it to nearer 45mph otherwise I find the gear is to high for the speed but it also depends on the gradient of the road. But more often than not I tend to use sixth gear on dual carriageways motorways or long roads were my speed is constant.so I don't think it's a fault! I think it's a case of using your own judgement when your selecting sixth gear but if I was you I'd try changing at around 45mph and you should find that the car is a lot happier

My ST would be pulling 1500 rpm at that speed in top gear, definitely too low for it to run smoothly.

On a 5th gear car its just about okay to sit in 5th at 40 6th is a cruising speed as is fifth so i agree its too early to be changing up it does also depend on fuel the st to have peak power needs premium fuel bog standard unleaded changes the map giving less power and response which wont help ide leave 6th for 50mph and over

Actually tried running mine at 40mph in 6th this evening and it burbled along nicely enough - could be the mk3 is a little bit less flexible down at those rpm's due to the smaller 2.0L engine? plus mine is far from standard trim these days.

Fuel-wise I use the Shell Nitro V-Power in mine, doesn't hurt to put the best stuff in it whenever I can. Never really run the BP equivalent for any length of time, it's a lot more expensive from the garage nearest to me.

I'm just going to keep 6th for 45-50 now. Stupid shift up sign.

I've tried BP 97 but find it abit crap. Love total super tho. I find it's like rocket fuel.

I have 2013 ST and able to drive 35 in 6th,  you wouldn't want to do a hard acceleration but it's possible.

And you've just bumped this VERY OLD post from 2014 just to say that?
