Ideas To Replace 6000 Cd Stereo In Mondeo

Hi

First post here and looking to pick brains about car stereos. I have a 2007 Mondeo lx with the large 6000cd unit. I know nothing about car stereos but would I be correct in thinking that this is called a 'double din' unit?

I'm wondering what is out there to replace it in the sub £200 range. I've no idea what the technology is these days or what connectors are at the back of the 6000cd.

Any ideas? a satnav might be nice, and I don't mind an eBay cheapo if it works. Something that could hold loads of mp3s would be good too

Ta in advance

Welcome to the forum James,

I highly recommend checking out dynamicsounds.co.uk for best value for money

Yes your 6000CD

Rapidly remove it and launch in to space :)

You need a double din conversion kit from dynamic sounds to prepare your cables, aerial, steering stalk control and dash to accept a double din aftermarket headunit.

These kits are model specific,

I think this is the one for you:

I recommend a pioneer headunit perhaps a Pioneer AVH-X1500DVD

All customisable colour illumination to match your existing interior colour

And pick up a cheap reverse camera on eBay for around 10 pounds

Also does the mondeo have a 12v socket inside the centre console under the arm rest?

If yes,

You can purchase a 12v socket sized AUX port which replaces the 12v socket allowing you to plug in an MP3 player or iPod/iphone streaming the tunes through the headunit while keeping the device hidden and safe.

Depending on design of auxiliary port at rear of headunit you will either require this kit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251583225246?redirect=mobile

Or this kit:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Car-Dashboard-Flush-Mount-USB-3-5mm-1-8-AUX-Extension-Cable-Lead-Mounting-Panel-/360587322923?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item53f4ade62b

Difference between the two is RCA plugs or 3.5mm plug,

Pioneer use both types varies on model

Hi Lenny

Thanks for your speedy advice!

Its a late mk 2 Mondeo (last of them in 07) and has a ciggy lighter socket by the gear stick. Don't think it has a socket in the arm rest box, but never really look in there. Its full of old boiled sweets :)

Ah post us a boiled sweet pal ;)

Im currently upgrading sound system in my focus mk2.5 (facelift mk2)

The conversion kits are dead money but gotta be done to break the barrier of stock,

Ive sold my sony single CD last September currently just got the double din aftermarket kit installed but santas bringin the ice in the coming weeks :)

If theres no 12v socket port in the centre console arm rest its worth considering fitting an aux port in there,

That's where im fitting mine anyways; i reckon its a good spot hidden and functional retains stock clean appearance.
