My St-2 Gets Delivered Next Thursday

Alright chaps! So, I was initially looking at leasing a Red Edition Zetec S from Evans Halshaw, but they're the biggest bunch of useless gits I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with, so sacked them off. Looked around, did some haggling, and managed to get an ST-2 for £2 a month cheaper than what Evans Halshaw quoted me for the Red Edition.

Signed everything off, finance agreement etc. and the car will be delivered Thursday 27th November. As you can imagine, I'm absolutely buzzing. Just a couple of questions.

1.) I passed my test last month in a 2007 1.4 Fiesta TDCi. So yes, this will be my first car. I know, I know. An ST for a first car. My dad isn't too impressed, but I tried to justify it by saying "It's not even about the performance, it's just more car for less money!" which it is. Anyway, be honest, am I going to !Removed! my pants driving this thing? The fastest thing I've ever driven is my dad's 2.0 diesel 2004 Peugeot 406 estate, which is about 110PS.

2.) Tyres. I assume they're low-pros? How often am I looking at changing them, and what kind of price are we looking at?

3.) Fuel economy. I know there's a thread on this already, and I've looked at Honest John etc. etc, but it's good to get more recent figures I guess. A lot of my driving will actually be very stop start, short distances which kinda concerns me. Not loads of motorway, if I'm being honest.

4.) ST-2 spec. I've read guides, reviews etc. but still not 100% clear on what the ST-2 gets you. I know - or at least I think - it doesn't have sat-nav or cruise control as standard. Is that right? What about DAB/the Sony sound system? Also, ambient lighting? Is that included and which parts of the interior actually light up? Do the footwells, or is that a mod that I've seen?

Cheers :)

Scuse me asking, Rory, but shouldn't you have had a quick glance at these details before you bought it?

;)

God knows what the insurance will be.

Haha, yeah, probably! I'm fairly sure on most of the points, just wanted clarification, really. Living with parents at home with basically no outgoings and earning a decent wedge so money isn't really an issue, just curious.

And my dad's paying my insurance for the first year :D It's surprisingly cheap. Was about £1k, when I was getting quotes of around £1.4-£1.8k for 8-year-old Peugeot 207s, Vauxhall Corsas etc. Bizarre. Pretty sure the market is rigged in such a way to get new cars on the road and the old bangers off. A new car is much, much cheaper to insure than an old one, with no exceptions.

No doubt you'll be paying more than you would have all things considered with general running costs included. Can't blame you though, I did exactly the same thing.. I got quoted a red edition for 140 p/m first off and got an ST3 for 123 :)

Lot of what you're asking is on how sensibly you drive... Drive it nice and in stop start traffic I reckon you'll get around 35-38 after a decent run in.

Yes, you will !Removed! your pants - and since you've just passed your test id urge you to be cautious but still enjoy the car!

Re insurance it's cheap because there's not many crash/claim stats for the car, you probably live in a fairly low crime postcode too, with parents on the policy it always helps... Don't be one of those that goes twice as fast as you should round a corner on a frosty night or you'll hurt yourself, put your insurance, as well as all of ours up!! :')

In all seriousness though, you'll love the car, absolute joy to drive and the sound symposer is addictive which does nothing for your economy :P

An ST-3 for £123?! Jesus wept, that is cheap! Is that including VAT? Where did you find that? What's the deposit on it? Bit !Removed! late for 21 questions now, I guess. I'm paying around £1k initial payment, then £164 a month for an ST-2. You've got a bargain there, unless your deposit is like £4k or something?

35-38 MPG seems very high considering what I've read on here. Do you all drive like lunatics? Hehe ;p I'd be more than happy with that. Was expecting mid-20s to be honest.

I am a sensible driver; my minor on my test was for undue hesitation! With all the T&Cs of a lease car and the fact that you don't own it, you'd be a bit of a numpty to drive it like an idiot. Would be too much hassle. I will drive it sensibly :)

Anyone have any info on the other questions? Specs, tyres etc? Cheers :)

2.)you will go through tyres depending on how you drive, I went through a set of tyres in 1 year :(

3.) 29 around town, I have got 43.7 doing a steady 85 back home from cornwall. 398 miles from a tank. :)

4.)that depends the the spec you asked for, mine has all of those & reversing sensors

Oooops my bad. Mine is on a pcp, ended up putting around 3k in then final payment of like 8, planning to hand the car back and renew then I'll probably keep the next one!

Tyres, if it comes with bridgestones, then you'll probably change them come June.. Obviously being FWD fronts will wear quicker so when you get to around 4ml at front swap them over and you'll be alright!

Spec - not entirely sure, you can google specs for each.. I'm pretty sure you miss out on nav, eatc, auto headlights/wipers and something else but can't remember off the top of my head!

My right foot does occasionally fall to the floor but going to/from uni everyday (35-40mile round trip) I see anywhere from 33 to 40!

Wow, nice first car. As others have said take it easy and get used to the car, for your own safety and others.

Tyre wear and mpg will depend how it's driven, I get 38-40mpg I've seen some average 25-28, some wear the tyres out by 5k others have seen 16k even with a few track days. Make sure the tyre pressures are correct and swap them from front to back every 4-5k to balance the wear. Premium tyres will be about £90-110 fitted.

ST2 spec includes, heated half leather recaros, sony DAB radio, privacy glass, LED daytime running lights, keyless start. Yes it has ambient light which is illuminated cup holders, a light strip above the glove box and red LEDs above the door pockets and in the front courtesy light which shine on the gearknob. Footwell lights are also standard.

Enjoy the new car, it'll be a long weeks wait.

I don't think there's a bad colour, to be honest! Beautiful car. I considered the white but wasn't keen on cleaning it every week

I love the race red colour, but I honestly think the Red Edition looks better than a Red ST. Those contrasting rims, mirrors and roof look great!

That's amazing for a first car, it took me almost 9 years after passing my test to get to this point lol. It will only scare you if you put your foot down when you shouldn't. Apart from that it's as easy to drive as any other Fiesta (which means it's as easy to drive as any other car to be honest).

Just be careful with it especially in winter, and don't be tempted to turn off the traction control :P

Thanks guys! You're right, I can't wait to pick it up now and get stuck in! This will be a long seven days.

And yes, I know I'm very privileged to be driving such a nice motor for my first car :)

I actually await the I've stacked it post,

What happened to the other 2 guys on here that said they were getting one for their first cars? Pandaballs or something like that, seem to have vanished on delivery date.

I only know of one mate that doesn't suffer from symptoms of EBRS (Excessive Boy Racer Syndrome), every guy is gonna try test the limits of their car :') esp at a young age! Think the reason he doesn't suffer from the disorder is his 1.1 Kia Picanto lol

OP went quiet lol

Personally rather than give young drivers the 6 point ban limit and talk about their hours, after dark restrictions and number of passengers, surely it seems more logical to restrict the engine sizes and power outputs much like the motorbike system.

What Hoodies don't know these days it's far cheaper on all sides to go and buy and old Vectra 2.5 GSI or a Lolvo C70 T5 than anything else, they are dirty cheap to insure and buy at 18 years old. I know where I'd be spending my money, I'd be chucking huge turbos on it like I did with my old Rover 220 Turbo Coupe I had at 19 because it was cheaper than a 1.2 Corsa, the car cost me £750 lol even had a Tbar roof.

Also its great buying these expensive fancy things but when it comes to servicing and buying parts and brakes ( £400 a pop currently ) they all abandon the cars and the markets become flooded with 2nd hand unserviced dogs, any 18 year old would wince at the cost of buying a bumper if they knock it too, ironically they don't bat any eye lid at paying over £500 for an exhaust though lol

What? I went quiet because my questions have been answered...

Dirt cheap to insure, are they?
