Philf1
New cars are cheaper to insure because they are safer for the driver and passengers when someone stuffs one into a wall. As everyone has said Rory take it steady and don't think your a better driver than you actually are otherwise you will end up another statistic, that's why your dad is concerned. I know what your thinking now is everyone on here is talking like your dad so you're inclined to dismiss it all but I'm sure you have enough sense to realise we are just trying to help you enjoy it, which you will enormously and hopefully for a long time to come. Keep us updated when you get it

I'll even be wearing my P plates for the first month or so :) Will keep this thread updated and hopefully become a regular poster on here; love my cars! Phil 87
I'll even be wearing my P plates for the first month or so :) I wonder how other drivers will react to that, most people ignore P plates I think, and on a hot hatch they might think it's actually a joke lol. I wouldn't bother with them, if you have to drive carefully and occasionally hold people up, it doesn't really matter. Let them get annoyed with you if they want, it's not your problem.
DaveTheDog
I actually await the I've stacked it post, What happened to the other 2 guys on here that said they were getting one for their first cars? Pandaballs or something like that, seem to have vanished on delivery date. Likewise for the M135i

I think they did help when I had then on my old one (for the most part, there's always the odd idiot). As soon as I took them off I noticed a difference in how rude and impatient people were lol. But I agree seeing an ST with P plates would look pretty odd :P
CasuallyDressed
Aye. The P plates are so people just give me a little bit more room than anything. Stay a bit further back at traffic lights etc. At least that's the idea.
GlynnZS
I'm glad I couldn't have afforded the equivalent of an ST when I passed my test, I was bad enough in the cars I had, would have been an accident waiting to happen if I had an ST, still would have got one if I could though. I've barely matured enough at 30 to be driving one! Still, everyone's different, hope you enjoy it!

CasuallyDressed
I am in love. Quick question - I think my Aux/USB input might be broken. I plug my phone or iPod into the aux jack and press Aux on the Sony unit, and it says "USB Input not connected" or something similar. Plugging in the phone via USB does nothing either, doesn't even charge the battery. Anybody got any ideas?
CookieM
Looks good mate! Although I'm bias since I have exactly the same :p
Phil 87
Looks great but then I would say that haha. As for the problem with aux input, if you press the aux button repeatedly it will cycle through aux connections i.e. line in, bluetooth, USB etc. So you just need to make sure you have the right one selected. I sometimes find that the USB won't connect after getting in the car, but it can be fixed by disconnecting whatever is in the usb port, turning the head unit off and on again, then plugging in the USB again. OK mate, I'll give that a try when I next get in. I was pressing Aux to cycle and only got "Sync" and "USB" though. Definitely couldn't see a Line In option. Strange. Will report back once I've tried your suggestion!
dmizz93
Your jack could be busted if you're using one.. My USB works fine, though sometimes it will randomly disconnect, think I have lint in the charging port of my phone - just too lazy to sort it. If you leave the USB in the socket, unplug phone/iPod end and then plug back in it should prompt it to work, otherwise press left on the directional buttons and scroll to sync media/usb.. Should sort it out :) Maybe try other devices as some may not be compatible. Looks a beaut though - enjoy it :D Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
CasuallyDressed
Cheers guys! :) Quick question - to use the Line In option, do you need to have USB AND aux jack plugged in? Seems a bit weird if so. Surely it should work fine with just one or the other?
dmizz93
At the minute I've only got USB plugged in.. if I press AUX I get BT audio and then line in which runs through the audio jack.. Did they go through a demo of controls with you or did you get impatient with the dealer politely ask him to close the door so you can go and enjoy your motor? ') Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC She never offered a demo, haha. She was a bit useless in all honesty and got a bit shirty when I was checking the car for anything wrong. "It's a brand new car." Well yeah, but I get the !Removed! for it if there's anything wrong with it. Lo and behold, there are quite a few scratches on the thing already which I took some pictures of. Anyway, the line in is working now chaps, thank you! Only problem is it won't charge my Windows Phone via USB. It will charge my iPod, but not the phone. Strange. The cable is fine as it's plugged into a wall charger as we speak and is charging no problems. Any idea what could be causing that? Different voltages and stuff?
Phil 87
It's strange that it won't charge your phone, USB is all standard stuff so voltages shouldn't be a problem. It could be that it's trying to connect to the phone in data mode or something, instead of just charging it. You could try a USB cable like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/PortaPow-Specialised-Blackberry-Charging-Devices/dp/B00HAAPREM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1417114464&sr=8-1&keywords=usb+cable+power+only That is basically a "dumb" cable which only has power connectors, so all it can do is charge.
