Fiesta 1.25 Squeaky Clutch??

Hi all

My early 2007 1.25 Fiesta has had a squeaky clutch (I think) from the day I bought it more than 4 years ago and I am wondering what it could be.

I am about to have the timing belt changed due to the age and mileage (approx 90k) and I wondered whether this squeak should be investigated too.

I have read online some other people have had similar experiences and some have put it down to thrust bearings or slack alternator. But I just dont know if this is something a garage could rectify without being costly.

It happens regularly but not always when changing through gears 1 to 3, but not at higher gears, so basically not at higher speeds. And as I say it has been occuring for more than 4 years.

Is it (niavely) just one of those things with my car or is it something that just needs adjusting or could it need replacing? I dont want to get a clutch change if it is totally unneccessary and not going to solve it.

The sound itself is a whir/squeal/squeak that lasts for about 1 second and only when taking your foot off the clutch pedal after changing gear. It is not something I can get it to do on cue nor is it something I can prolong by holding the clutch pedal down.

I have the car in for the timing belt change on Wednesday and would like to know if this is something to get checked out and if so to narrow it down so I dont get hit with hefty search/labour fees.

Thank you very much,
