troy45
After being taken on a demo ride in an SUV with a Heads Up Display feature I had a look on the web to see what was available as an add-on. Picked up one of these to have a play with, quite a bit cheaper than say the Garmin unit. Mine doesn't have any sat-nav functionality like the Garmin, but on the other hand it's not self powered needing charging up every couple of days. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221463097937?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT There are some alternative units which only seemed to display speed in KMH so I went for the one above. Only tried it quickly in the car to see if it worked, need to go through the set-up a bit more then work out it's best position on top of the dash. There's a piece of reflective sheet supplied to eliminate the double image you get from laminated front windscreens so that will need fitting once I've decided where to mount the unit. Plus got some ideas for hiding the cable, patching into the obd port wiring and maybe recessing it into the trim panel on top of the instrument panel. Watch this space....... :P
madmole
Run several in mine. Apart from the double image the biggest issue is they don't always turn off with the ignition and then drain your battery. The reflective foil is to opaque to use Sent from my iPad using Ford OC
troy45
Thanks for the info there - I was expecting to maybe have problems with the reflective sheet for the windscreen. May look at alternatives supplied with Garmin kits or similar. And I'll keep an eye out for it not turning off properly. Didn't cost me too much if it doesn't work as well as intended.
