JonnWhite
HI Everyone! I have a 2008 Focus Zetec auto, and i am looking to retro fit the auto headlights and maybe auto wipers to it. I know i need to see if i have the correct wiring, however i was wondering if there was anyone they could help me establish this?! Also i will need to change the config for the car, i used to have a vauxhall astra and could do it on there however it's a little different with a ford. Not sure i would like to mod the ELM reader myself, or pay ford £70! I'm guessing that i would need: Auto headlamp switch Auto wiper stalk Sensor and new mirror? My mum has a 62plate zetec when you open the doors and it is dark it automatically puts the side lights on (also when you unlock it) when you close a door they go off and then when you open on the come on, is this possible also? Not in any rush to get this done however would be cool if i could do it. TIA! Jonathan
Dee_82
Look above the Liner around the map lights. Your looking for some connectors taped up and unused. Its not the ones not used in the back of the centre lights. You'll need the dimming rearview mirror and sensor. There is plenty of posts on this mod in the guide section. Mind that the new mirror has a different mount. You'll need a new window to do it properly although its possible to bodge it. If you have the wires your on to a winner. If not its more complicated which is where I'm at with it. Not sure about wiper stalk but you'll defo need auto light switch. And yourll need a modified elm as well. Worth getting for all sorts of reasons beyond this.
JonnWhite
I've seen some of your comments on the guides! I'm probably just being stupid or it was the time of night i was reading it haha! I couldnt really understand the wiring situations on a large connector which i guess is in the fuse box. What's the best way to get the light out with out damaging it? Will it be closer to the window/passenger side/driverside/towards the back of the car. Really do appreciate the help, don't want to damage anything so if i have a good idea as to where it is i shouldn't do too much damage. Is there anywhere i can get a pre-modified ELM? Not sure if i am allowed to post links as i have found a guide who will provide them but want to make sure it is legit. Also wheres the best place for bits? Scrappy/ebay/etc? Thanks again! nazsky786
You would only need to replace that wiring if you don't have the connectors. Check to see if you have them. If not you would need to replace the complete roof wiring loom or create a loom yourself. But cleaner and easier if you just replace with a Ford loom. JonnWhite
I'm going to have a look when i get 5 minutes. If i have the wireing then i think i will do it, if i don't ill leave it for now! Feeling hopeful though :)
Dee_82
The light fitting comes out fairly easily, use a small flat headed screw driver to pop one side out facing the window (I think its 2 clips that side), it kind of rotates towards you a bit, then do the same on the other side, I think its one clip, it will pop right off then, remove the connectors, next up is the plastic bit, it needs to be unscrewed from the roof, that's easier enough, pull the liner down a bit and see what you can see, the hard bit is putting that stupid plastic bit back on, it has a metal plate above the roof liner that needs lined up, lot of faf, id wait until morning to do it again to be honest. I'd hopped mine had it but alas no such luck, I'm now keeping my eye on eBay for a full loom, mirror and sensor for a reasonable price. I managed to find a cheap auto light switch ages ago so I have that bit at least (although I need to swap over the LEDs to red, damn green ones looks shoddy!) Thanks again Jonathan If you don't have the wiring in place, honestly, I would leave it. I had an 05 Zetec and attempted to retro fit auto headlights and wipers; it was a complete pig. Mine didn't have the wiring in place so I managed to source the wiring in the hope of installing it to the fuse box myself, ticking a few boxes in ELM Config and hey presto! 3 modified ELM's later, a new fuse box, the sensor, housing, the light switch, immobiliser stuck on and it still didn't work. Just bought a Titanium in the end instead lol It can be done ofcourse, possibly easier on the facelift. Good luck!

Haha, have you still got the sensor etc? I'm going to get my dad to help me as it's probably better to have that helping hand. I want to get all the parts before i start so i can just do it! Thanks Jon
Dee_82
ive been back and forth with this mod, but its a lot of work if you don't have the loom in place, even if you get a dimming mirror and loom you will still need to replace the window to do it right, then, even if you buy the auto light switch there is no guarantee its wired up fully to GEM. I got the switch but im close to selling it an just putting the original one back in (even the dash LED dimming dial ive not really used since I put it in) :(
JonnWhite
so we have progress! I went to the scrappy with my uncle and a focus was there with a sensor. Still haven't seen if I've got the wires but I couldn't miss the chance! Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
