mattchrome
My instrument cluster has developed a strange intermittant fault. The orange lcd display fades to a ghost, the gauge illumination goes totally off. and the indicators become silent. All of these things work one minute and stop another. It might happen twice in a minute or perhaps only once in an hour. there are no clues as to what causes this as no amount of bumps will cause this to happen, and no amount of switching lights etc also does not cause it. heat in the cabin also does not seem to affect it either. Has anyone had a similar problem? I thought of removing cluster and cleaning circuit board and multiplug and cleaning with switch cleaner, but am wary of causing more damage. Anyone? or in the absence of replies, suggest a reputable auto electrician?
nazsky786
So to clarifity the cluster loses all backlight illumination only sometimes not always? Does anything else lose power or lighting?

mattchrome
To nazsky786 What is the common cluster issue, and how do I fix it? Cheers!
nazsky786
People have tried resoldering the connected point on the cluster main board, this has the highest success rate. Some used wd-40 on the board. And some used pcb cleaner. Or give it to a professional to check. Around £40 repair cost. If all else fails you can get one from another car and program it to your car. Cost is around £250-300 as the tools to program are expensive Ford don't normally do it.
