tdidog
Well, blokes, I am in need of some assistance. We just got a 2015 Transit Van, 15 passenger white whale and I need to install an inverter in this. I have the upfitters manual and it shows that there is a connector under the drivers seat that has a pin in it that gives an earthing engine run signal. This would be perfect since I only want it on when the engine is running. The upfitters manual even gives a Ford engineering number for the connector. This is what it states: The mating (male) connector to the 6-way standard interface connector is 4S7T-14A459-V_ . A service kit can be ordered from your local Ford Dealer, the kit contains the mating connector to access these signals, and 3 meters of wiring. The bold is the part number but I called my dealer and he talked to some engineering guy and was told that this part is not released as on yet. So, here is my question: Could someone take that part number to their friendly Ford parts person and see if they can get that harness? If you can, could you post a contact for me so that I could see about getting this? I know of a few folks here that would also like this connector so you would be helping more than just me. Thank you so much and sorry about that whole throwing the tea in the harbour thing.
tdidog
sorry about that whole throwing the tea in the harbour thing. OK, I hope I didn't offend anyone with my little joke. The funniest part about that to me is that I honestly didn't know that yesterday was the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party until I got home and read the newspaper. SeanW
We're not an easy bunch to offend Just that many of us on here are car drivers/owners who try to avoid dealerships lol
tdidog
A little update. The Ford Manual that I found this part number in is definitely for the North American van and I found a European van and the connector that does the same thing is a completely different plug. So I kinda doubt that it's only available in Ford Europe. DOn't know what I'm going to do now...

It may be possible to connect the inverter directly to the battery - theoretically it only needs 2 wires + and - (i would use heavy duty cable) , it could run through the firewall (scuttle?) this has the advantage if being seperate from the vans' existing wiring - you could add a suitable inline fuse close to the battery

A nice, short run of cable and it is separate from the vehicles system to avoid any electrical interference. The connector I would like to find will just be the signal for a relay to allow power to the inverter. I only want it to be on when the engine is running.
