The Dark Knight
I've had this on most if not all cars I have owned at some point. I seem to recall phoning the dealer once and they said it is perfectly normal. It seems much louder than normal at the moment but we have just had snow recently so a lot of grit will be about. Only when braking at lower speeds, such as town driving. Does anyone know the exact cause for this dragging/scraping noise? Cheers
Marcr1
Does it happen throughout the whole journey? As in wet conditions the brake discs rust over and you often get the scratching noise when the rust is being cleared off the discs. This always happens when I wash my car. Then after about 5 minutes the rust clears and the noise stops
MattDRX
Possibly just grit, the gritters are all over the place at the moment, try giving it a hose in the caliper and disc and see if it changes anything.
The Dark Knight
The car is certainly due a wash and I guess grit is the main cause. I've been ploughing through a fair amount of snow whilst recording those videos so I guess picking up grit was inevitable. It did happen throughout my journey today. I'll see if it continues after the car has been washed and no harm in ringing the dealer for advice if it persists. I might view the dashcam files to see if it can be heard on there....
MattDRX
Just be careful with it, it can scratch the discs quite badly and make them useless, they are not cheap to replace either.
troy45
It's not uncommon for grit/stones to occasionally get stuck between rear discs and the metal disc guard, worth checking if the ST has those.
The Dark Knight
Thanks for the input. I will see how it is over the next few days and ring the dealer to get it booked in if needs be.
The Dark Knight
It has still been doing it today, even after a drive in heavy rain which should have washed some of the crap off. I am going to get it washed tomorrow and see then. I have booked it in at the dealers for the 14th just to play it safe. That was the soonest they had.
Lenny
Sorry to hijack thread slightly but Shouldn't pads squeal when there low enough or is that just certain brands? Reason i ask is: Ford told me over 18 months ago "you'll need discs and pads on next service" Im now at 182,000km on factory set yo!! No squeal and still stopping, Should i be worried? MattDRX
they only squeal when the metal on the pads is touching the discs. you are clearly an awesome driver to still on the same set, you sir deserve a medal / award of some sort. that's quite an achievement.
