What is the best type of steering wheel lock for a mk7 and are there any other good security features that I can fit.

Too many fiesta are getting stolen from my area

Disklok (iro £100) are good, also I've heard Stoplock pros (iro £50) are good too

Anything visual is likely to have the would be thief move on to the next target, but nothing is 100% theft proof

I've always used Stoplocks - but if Fiestas are getting nicked in your area, the Disklock might be a better idea!!

Am I right in thinking that some locks may be viewed favourably by insurers and will, if used, knock a bit off your insurance? I think it's something to do with the Thatcham rating of the lock.

Are they that easy to steal without the keys?

Not with the immobiliser, alarm and already has a steering lock built in - no

But prevention is better than cure

And people need to take better care of where they keep their keys at night

If is keyless start its apparently easy, break drivers window, plug into OBD port and start car, drive off.

I use a disklok as a visible deterrent but if they want your car that badly they can break into the house.

What size Disklok do you use, SMALL?

I was thinking about ordering one of these: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stoplock-134-66-Steering-Wheel-Airbag/dp/B001WJRW0E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1424340578&sr=8-3&keywords=steering+wheel+lock

What do you think? It should at least be a visual deterrent if nothing else.

Those type stop locks are weak as chips, invest in a stop lock pro or disklok :)

Like this one?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stoplock-149-00-Steering-Wheel-Thatcham/dp/B003S51WII/ref=pd_cp_auto_1

And I wonder if that will fit, some reviews saying it doesn't fit some cars.

Get a tracker fitted.

That's probably a good idea too, how much would a decent one cost?

Problem with a testier is that it doesn't stop your car getting stolen, hopefully it the thief parks it up shortly after taking it and alls ok but, do you want the car back if it's been trashed about and damaged?

If a thief really wants a car there is very little that will stop them, however a false O.B.D. port & visible deterrent(s) will help as their main enemy is time & a tracker can locate a car in minutes.

Could try something cheap like this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tracker-Vehicle-Theft-Protection-System-Black/dp/B003XDN58K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1424354273&sr=8-1&keywords=car+tracker

Looks a bit complicated though, and you're right mark it doesn't prevent theft. Although it can supposedly be wired up so it can cut out the engine. I suppose if it's well designed it could be put into a secure mode where it cuts the engine if the car is moved more than a few meters, so then they'd need a crane to steal it lol.

That's the badger, and it does fit a mk7.5 at least - I've got one, but I've just upgraded to a disklok, so if you want my old one you're welcome to it if you fancy a trip to Gloucestershire :)

Tbh I was seriously looking at trackers and fact they can remotely immobilise the engine with some

But the fact they can be easily ripped out and / or as a pp said you get the car back if they haven't after it's been thrashed - is it really worth it?

It comes down to budget / risk trade off at the end of the day, if I've got best part of £30 k sat in the drive I want them staying where I left them !

Your own wheel clamp is another option.

You can spend thousands on security and they will still take it if they really want it, you should take what ever steps you see fit, whether it's a cheap steering wheel lock or locking the port away or spending £600 on a alarm that disables the port.

Ignoring the issue and blaming ford when it goes missing isn't the best option.

A thief will never find a professionally fitted tracker in the limited time they have - they generally go for easy pickings - so the more deterrence the better
