Hi guys never thought id be on a ford owners club

I have owned 2 pumas before bit girly but loved that 1.7 block

Anyway i bought missus a focus mk1 1.6 2000

last year and iv got a few issues which is almost making me want to sell it

But now i thought id sign up here before and get the proper help as mechanics might be cowboys in my town

First issue it idles lumpy not too much just a bit but its annoying.. rev needle dont really move it stays around 700rpm but engine sounds like a diesel is that rpm too low.. anyway noise began after thermostat and water pump change, recently changed icv but same issue. It seems to do it more with heaters on full and this also causes car to set of very slugglish like a big flat spot

2. Other annoying problem iv had it tracked twice, tyres change and balance, checked shocks springs track rods but steering wheel in centre position is pulling badly to left :(

Any help would be appreciated please

the car pulling to the left is a weird one...the cars not been in a bump has it?

Car pulling to left can be as simple as over or under inflated tyre. might even just be the camber of the road that's causing it.

What I used to do is find a quiet road. dive opposite side obviously with no traffic lol and see if it still pulls

Not been in bump far as im aware

Its on 17" wolfrace rims with 45 profile tyres and i have tested a few pressures from 28 to 34 and tried putting less in rear but problem still there

I thought i could take steering wheel of and bolt it on straighy incase it had been replaced but i have been told that is not possible as it dont sit on a spline is that right??? Tbh honest i thought all cars used a spline but im no mechanic

And defintly not road camber

im no expert but surely if its pulling to the left then it can only be a couple of things, either its physically turning left or resistance on that side is dragging it there, if you have had tracking checked, wheels and tyres all checked out and all the other parts that would induce a turn then perhaps look in to resistance, is the rear left drum too tight, are the bearings done in the Hubs increasing resistance.

if the brake on that side is binding it will pull to that side common on the mk1 the idle is normal the focus for emission purposes idles 730 + _ 50 rpm so 680 to 780 is normal check and adjust the spark plug gaps to 1.0mm and apply dielectric grease to both ends of each ht lead youll never get rid of it but you can make it less noticeable
