That kind of thing really annoys me when people move somewhere and expect that area to change to suit them, as if the world revolves around them. Reminds me of that recent TV programme about motorways, where people were living next to a motorway and complaining about noise levels when they had to do maintenance work on it

I signed that one too, it's basically the same thing, almost identical word for word :)

They might as well do a catch all petition along the lines of "anyone stupid enough to move house near to something very noisy has no right to complain about it" :P

Because it was a 5 bed house with 300ft garden, garage for 2 cars and driveway space for 8 cars for 390k, Sold last week and completed for 595k after 4 years and immense amounts of work put into it, was within easy reach of London and M25 just 5 mins from jct 14, very convenient and decent value for money, just the noise mainly the BA 747s that were the problem, I swear they fly deliberately low to !Removed! everyone off, A380 was silent compared to them, now moved to Windsor where it's much better, and posher.

That's the recession for you, looks like you bought at the right time. I bought my flat just over a year ago when the prices were as low as they were going to get :)

I might end up being one of the complainers because HS2 is meant to come quite close to my village, but I knew about it before I moved so I won't expect anyone to listen to my complaints.

I spent 9 years living on RAF bases with fighter jets coming and going at all hours, never bothered me in the slightest.

Lived in a house for 5 years that backed right onto a main railway line, never bothered me either.

Bear in mind I'm a light sleeper.

You get used to the noise very quickly.

If you move next to something you know is noisy then on your head be it.

If you like silence then either wear earplugs, buy triple glazing or bugger off into the middle of the Welsh mountains.

Same thing here. Blackpool airport. Pontins sold land after shutting down the camp, opposite the sand hills and at the end of the runway for building and the owners of the airport stipulated in the deeds that anyone buying a house could not complain about the noise,

Since then the airport shut down and has re-opened (so we are led to believe) so what the situation is who knows?

It's all the helicopters that make the most noise here.I live about a mile and half away.

I forgot to mention I got an email about this recently which was along the same lines. The bit I don't like is:

"removing the rights of incomers to protect themselves against nuisances would discriminate against them"

Surely you could equally argue that the newcomers are the nuisance because they are discriminating against the motorsport venue. Unless there's some law that protects the "newcomers" from their own ignorance.

Anyway lets hope it keeps getting more signatures so it can be discussed by parliament.

I go horse riding at a yard in Wimbledon Village. A few years ago, some bint moved into one of the flats behind the yard and then decided to petition the locals and the council about having to live next door to horses.

Three things:

A. To get to the flats, you have to walk down a (very regularly cleaned) path that bisects the (immaculate) stable yard. The estate/letting agent would have walked her down this path to show her the flat when she first viewed it.

B. The riding school raises tens of thousands of pounds for local charities (and The Royal Marsden hospital) every year - and local business benefit from riders having coffees, buying bits and bobs, etc. The horses are also used for celebrity photo shoots out on the Common.

C. The yard has existed in it's location for a good few decades. Probably a couple of hundred because it used to be the last coaching inn before you got to London, and has been a riding school for about a hundred years. It's London's longest-running riding school.

So needless to say, the riding shool, the council, the locals and businesses along the high street all collectively told her to [iNSERT NAUGHTY WORD HERE] off...

:D
