blackbacks
Hi all Driving in the snow and ice over the past couple of weeks I noticed when I brake hard I get a grinding/metallic sound from brakes. Noise is not there in normal conditions- brakes are fine. Car is 1.6 zetec petrol with abs and esp (I think) Any thoughts?
STEADS
Possible grit or is it first thing after a wet night as mine grind a bit on first braking after it's been wet the previous evening just like a light surface rust gets on them after that first initial brake there fine . blackbacks
Cheers for the reply Steady First things I checked- but no everything's fine. Have a feeling it's to do with the Esp system but as I've not had a car with Esp before can't be sure
IINexusII
thats how the abs works i think, makes that sound. youll also feel that the brake pedal doesnt go all the way, it sort of restricts your pressure
troy45
As above, it'll be the ABS kicking in - if you're able to get on a big wide open road/supermarket car park/field which is snowy, and clear of traffic etc just try braking as hard as possible at low speed to trigger the ABS and compare it to when you brake gently enough not to cause the wheels to lock-up.
