After seeing that I will steer well clear. Amazing how these fools who do advertising can't seem to grasp that the world we live in, isn't the world they live in. You either like the advert, celebrate it and share its word of mouth because it looks awesome! or the thing sucks, scares the cack outa you, burns your eyes and sets an image in your brain that keeps you awake at night, you talk to your therapist about it, and they are still getting a memorable product. There is no such thing as a bad advert, its either memorable, or its not - so in marketing - its a success. SeanW Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 I fell for this twice when I was younger, had a half built robot thingy on wheels, which when finished could supposedly learn it's way around your house, and part of a remote control Impreza WRX which could supposedly do 40mph lol. I can't remember if the magazines stopped or if I just lost interest. The magazine was "Real Robots" I collected the whole thing. As did my sister ("Well, Sean has one..." no prizes for guessing who built hers...) I did ask Mum to stop buying it, but she refused to give-up her £2 deposit for WH Smith holding them lol My interest faded when it started needing 1,000 batteries. That and I was doing two of the friggin' things. Ohh...and they extended the magazine run about 3 times. I never used it properly. Buuuttt it then became a very dull magazine and having 2 of them to build and not having any batteries to hand (this was before you could buy 50 duracell batteries on eBay for a tenner lol). First is when your waiting for the tax man to send you the vat bill, then you get the endless wait of when they post it on to you... Was actually sat her3 reading the thread wondering if anyone got it back then. I also was duped by it. First and last magazine i ever started getting where im waiting every week for parts paying about 5 times its worth. Luckily i stopped about 8 issues in and promptly binned it. Paramanic Posted January 24, 2015 Share Posted January 24, 2015 lol just came across this thread lol a dont usually catch onto threads that fast lol! but funny talking in this thread lol reading everyone in same position at one point of buying useless crap haha dont know if you remember the titanic one my papa fell for it (£4.99/week 100 mags so £499 in total) and it cost a lot! but gave him something to do with me when younger so memories is another thing but sadly he passed away before it got finished but he did give me some advice when i get it finished .....sell it .... and so i continued it when he passed and finished it and i did manage it to be sold (took forever tho) lol got 800 for it as it litrally was hand crafted to high standard (apparently went to a guy for his boat living room) but also sold mags for £50 all in too so made a profit on it and got memories out of it so not all bad :) But i fall for things too i thought to myself right i want to get into RC planes saw a mag and was too expensice so got a plane for £230! (thinking its great had all things except wheels or lights ) then got into the sport and could have halfed my money! so i ended up buying this reading about (adding it all up and got good deals now ) have a great website if you want to get into anything rc (cars planes etc) called Hobbyking! Like Sean said they kept extending it so I only went as far as it was originally meant to go (40 issues at something like £4 each I think). Still got it in a cupboard, and the soldering iron which came with it has proven useful many times for other things! It is weird really weird I just cannot see how who ever dreamed it up can see where it is going to make me a customer, if anything I will steer clear of that company now for having the audacity of showing such a hideous mess. Ads should be appealing and even if you find them offensive you still talk about them but talking in a negative way will not win customers and that's what ads are for.
