ZeEscort
Where would I find the code for a key cutter, as my key for car is so beyond recognition they can't copy & cut so they require the code for the key to make a replacement. All help appreciated.
L666JER
If the key is that bad and you cant make out what the code should be, the chances are the lock barrels are pretty worn as well. You thought about putting new locks in with new keys etc? You don't want to be stuck in Tesco car park for 2 hours with a failed ignition barrels like I was
ZeEscort
You can't make out what the code is from the Key, as there is no code on the key. As for ignition barrel, if that went I can get around it without any problems (Always carry tools for that sort of thing). The issue I have, is I don't want to have to remove one of the locks to dismantle it and get the code from the barrel pins. Is there anyway I can find out who the original dealer was, as one bit of advice I was given was that they might have the keycode down on record (this came from Ford). It is possible to work out what it should be by the height of each cut in the key e.g 132142, as the deepest cut will be a 4 and the shallowest is a 1 - obviously if its too worn you cannot do this easily. As for finding the dealer I do not know. Don't suppose your lucky enough to have the dealers name on the number plate

Stoney871
Here's how to read a key, even if worn you should be able to figure it out-
iantt
Ford dont keep key numbers, original ford dealer may have recorded it, good luck with that one. the problem you will have without much doubt as others have said if you do manage to read the key or get number either rrom dealer or off a barrel, is that the new key wont work on a worn barrel. so either it wont work in drivers door or more likely will jam in the ign lock and wont turn or able to remove from ign barrel
ZeEscort
Key is that worn, no possible way of reading. The trouble is, if I replace barrel I'm also going to have to replace door locks as well. I swear this car has caused me more trouble than my last one lol. Stoney871
An Auto Locksmith should be able to read the code from the locks or ignition directly unless they are all as badly worn.
jeebowhite
As was advised earlier, if the key is that badly worn you really dont know the state of the barrel. You could get a set from a breakers for a darned site cheaper in much better nick, and to replace the barrels of the doors shouldnt be too difficult a task for a man with a set of tools. The ingition barrel may be of moderate difficulty depending on how confident you are, but even then, you could get one, or two keys along with new barrels - for the price of getting the code of ford and also the key cut. I really wouldnt discount the idea of the barrels though... Phone around a few breakers and see if any of them have a full range - you could possibly get 2 keys and all barrels for a hundred quid or so. Kevinmcdonough
Can anyone tell me how to get 2006 Ford Transit key number (tibbi) that is really worn. Thanks
Stoney871
The key should still have enough clues as to the code unless it's totally rounded off.http://carlocksmith.co/28-read-your-ford-car-tibbe-key-code.htmlSent from my SM-G965F using Tapatalk

nicam49
A locksmith will be able to work out the code using special tools (picks) which are available to buy on eBay, but of course they will have the experience to use them. If one lock is too worn to read reliably, then there's always the bonnet lock to get a 'reading' from.
