Hello all!

Seriously considering buying an st-2, are there currently problems with them that owners are experiencing? Will be long term ownership if i get one 3+ years so want to hear from people who have put some millage on them already?

Thanks in advice.

Not really any major faults, light up sill probably the most known fault but covered under warranty.

Mines just over 8k, only been to the dealers for an oil change so far.

Few people on STOC are nearly 30k and haven't reported anything.

12000 + on mine and nothing bad to report.

Shouldn't have said that it'll probably break down tomorrow

ST2 gains Heated seats, half leather trim, privacy glass, keyless start, LED daytime running sights, projector headlamps, sony DAB headunit.

ST3 also has cruise control, climate control, sat nav, auto wipers/headlights, sat nav, keyless entry and folding mirrors. All these are options on the ST2.

Are you buying new or used? It's possible to get a new one for similar money used. Drivethedeal and carwow will give the cheapest price, local dealer may match it. Cheap lease deals available too.

Only problem I've had with mine is the illuminated sill plates had to be replaced under warrenty when I bought it in November. Apart from that it's perfect but you only get the sill plates, privacy glass, rado grey wheels and red brake callipers with the style pack. If you don't spec that you get silver wheels and no of the others.

8000 miles over 9 months on mine and it hasn't missed a beat (touch wood).

Looking at the drivethdeal website you can get an st2 in blue with syle pack for £15800 so £13000 second hand seems a bit steep for a second hand car..

Will have to think what is best.

They hold there money well. I bought my white ST2 with style pack 8000 on the clock for 15k and it was worth every penny. The spirit blue and molten Orange go for more as there the most sort after and it's extra cost paint options. White Red and Black are non cost options and factor in the style pack which everyone wants at around £800 and that keeps the price up.

Personally I would buy new,

First owner of the car so you can ensure no one has done anything silly in the first 10-15k of mileage and dependant on how you'd finance it, main dealer finance is better.

You'd likely spend the same if you kept it over x no. of years either way as they do hold their value so go new!

Mines done 6k in just under 5months, no problems to report aside from slightly noisy brakes at times.. Going in to dealer for a checkup

Personally I'd buy nearly new, say up to 6 months old , ex Ford demo, under 5k on the clock, balance of Ford's standard 3 year warranty & save a fortune on the new price & not suffer the shocking instant depreciation when you drive off the forecourt.

I did this with my MK 3 ST TDCi Mondeo & the TXS & the Fiesta ST 2.

I think ill buy second hand either way as will loose at least £ 2k straight away. Will buy from a ford approved though and only a few months or a year old so still in ford warranty. There are some private sales of st2 at 12.5k atm but rather buy from dealer..

Fair enough.

Mine is immaculate and is used for motorway driving mainly and be 9 months old, 14 plate (June), warranty still remaining.

Lowest I've seen a year old st2 13 plate £13.2k.

Like I said make me a offer if you like.

The ST2 and ST3 come with Privacy glass as standard.

The Style pack is the Rado grey wheels, red painted calipers and illuminated sill plates. Its current cost is £175.

The only non cost colour option is red. White is £250, black and Spirit blue are £495, Molten Orange is £725.

A new white ST2 via Drive the Deal with style pack would be £15514 this month,

£15517 for an ST2 with style pack brand new? That's cheaper than an ST1 brand new with nothing on it

A ST1 with no options in red would be £14267 via Drive the Deal if bought this month

I don't trust that far to cheap. How they can drop the price 2-3k from manufacturer when I no for a fact there isn't even that profit margin in new cars is beyond me. Dealers make more profit by hitting unit targets and getting to bonus from manufacturers than the profit margin in new cars.

The prices are correct as far as i know people on here have used them and have said to look at them, some of the second hand sts are well overprices considering the new price listed. I will have to see whats about when i buy.

Look on auto trader there are some second hand with low miles at about £12.5k. This link shows a second hand st2 price

I just don't trust a site that can sell a £17995 car for £15541. Even if ford are doing a promotional price at £175 for style pack.

What have people paid new recently? If you look at the second hand prices they must have got them new well under the 18000 mark to be selling them for £12.5k at only a year old..

As long as i can get a blue on from ford with style pack ill be happy!

I bought my 2nd ST through Drivethedeal, was I bit worried but all was fine, whole experience was so much better than the first ST which was through my local dealer. Don't think I'd buy direct from a dealer ever again.

Paid £16.5k for a ST3 in blue with all the other options, so £4k off, I think the dealer DTD use get a bonus from ford for units sold.

If you can buy a new car as cheap as possible then your loss from deprecation is less, if you a price you want to pay, look at all the options available. I'd rather have a new car for a few hundred pounds more than a used one with 8k miles on it.
