Calsgal Posted January 29, 2015 Share Posted January 29, 2015 I've been looking at the posts on the forum and there are a couple about problems with battery drain on the fiesta. I have recently rejected a fiesta under the sale of goods act as it continually broke down and despite trying everything they could the dealer could not fix it. I was given another fiesta - same year/model/spec - 62 plate 1.5 diesel titanium (new shape). Yesterday, after using it for 8 weeks, the same issue occured. The dealer is telling me that I am the only person with this problem. If you have ever had this problem please let me know so I can make them aware that it's not just me! Thank you. Happened first time when car was only a week old. Happened again on Monday this week. Once jump started by Ford Assist, they say battery is good, Alternator is good, no battery drain... Spoken to ford customer services who are trying to help its going to the dealer on 3rd march keeping fingers crossed. I now carry spare batt in the boot having been let down 4/5 times. They told me today that there were 2 more cars with this problem and this fault is top priority. I have no complaints about how they are treating me (now, though it's taken over a year and two cars). Ford dealer do now have the 'fixed' software patch. I know the original post is older the the post on here about the new car will have the software available from your dealership. Dealer said there was a small battery drain from the instrument cluster which they found a software update for and the problem was now solved. Let's hope so... Watch this space! Mechanic is using it to see if he can replicate the problem............. Trofolo Posted March 8, 2015 Share Posted March 8, 2015 Bought new Fiesta 1.6 TI-VCT in December. Few weeks later go to start one morning and could not even open the door. Called the AA and found the battery Totally flat. Having checked the System and found no drain dispersion, I then fully charged the battery from the Mains and since then it has been fine. dave bristol Posted March 9, 2015 Share Posted March 9, 2015 Hi, Yes I have had an issue with my Fiesta 1.0 eco titanium. Sept 2014 - it's 6 months old and 3000 miles on clock and I have just recently put my music on to a USB stick. Also at the same time coupled up my I Phone 4 s to bluetooth like my son has got. As I am 70 years old and do not understand about new technology, I got my son to couple them up. I left my USB stick in the USB socket and did not think anything of it. Everything was ok for about a week Note - my car is in a garage at my home between two houses next to the boiler so it is not cold. On 16th Feb 2015, after leaving the car in my garage for a day and a half, I came out to unlock but remote did not work and found battery flat. Called out Ford Assist which is AA really. They jump started battery checked it over and found that the USB stick was using 2 amps up even when ignition was off and car was locked up. He disconnected USB stick checked it all over said that the alternator was charging and there was no fault with the battery also he said that the alternator only works when it's needed on this car and went on his way and gave me a report .So I thought that must be the answer. However, on 27th Feb 2015, I again left car for a day and a half still in garage next to boiler so it's not cold - came out to remotely unlock car and once again nothing happened - battery flat as pancake - it was so flat even the clock did not work this time. I was convinced it was the bluetooth that was making it flat because I don't need my actual I phone with me in the car - it seems to pick up my I phone from the house if its on because the garage is attached to the house next to the living room. I have got in the car without my I phone and the car says connecting to blue tooth but I haven't got it with me - its in the house and after about a mile it says disconnecting from bluetooth. So called Ford Assist again and he jump started it and checked it all over - could find no fault and said battery is ok; alternator ok and also had never heard of any fault but advised me to go back to Ford garage and not to touch any thing because it was under guarantee. He gave me another report. So I took car back to FORD THORNBURY(armed with the two Ford Assist reports) that same day that it broke down, which is the garage where I bought it 6 months ago new. My wife who also relies on the car being OK is paranoid about the car letting her down with her 90 year old mother in it so what do I do - buy another car just in case? Also we asked the salesman if the car is equipped with all these things like Bluetooth and USB sockets surely you should be able to use them. The salesman there said he had never had a problem but disconnected Bluetooth and booked the car in to check everything. They booked my car in for the following week, for 3 days to test (which left it with me for 5 days before I could get it to them) so every morning I got up early to make sure the car would start and drove it for a few miles to charge battery up because that would give me time to get Ford Assist out again if needed, but it did start. After 3 days at the garage they said they never had a problem with the battery going flat and could not find anything wrong BUT SAID THEY HAD PUT AN UPDATE FOR THE RADIO/SCREEN ON FROM FORD but did not know exactly what it was for. Got it back on Saturday 7th March 2015. The car seems to be going OK so far but have not left it more than one day. So far still have not put either Bluetooth on or my USB stick in yet. I think what they did to yours is the standard "fix". Hopefully all will be well and you'll get your confidence back. Mine is still with Ford. bubbleman Posted March 10, 2015 Share Posted March 10, 2015 fiesta 1.5 tdci 13 plate re battery drain i eventually found the problem myself. i had front parking sensors retro fit by local Ford dealer who connected the parking module direct to the battery which left it live all the time. i disconnected the feed now have no problems. going to another dealer soon to have them wired properly. BryBake Posted March 15, 2015 Share Posted March 15, 2015 I recently bought a Fiesta Titanium with PowerShift and Sony radio. After maybe 3 days without use the battery was too low to start the car. I was told that there was a problem affecting this build but Ford Dealer Lookers stated that my car (13 plate) was not in the affected range. I bought a mutimeter and put in series with the negative battery cable and found an amp drain of 0.1. Took the car into Lookers and they found that the previous owner had messed with the radio wiring. They had the car for a day and replaced the wiring at a cost of £300! Very fortunately the dealer that sold me the car covered the cost - how lucky is that? Today I measured the amp drain and found it to show zero (too low to register on my multimeter anyway) so it looks as though it might now be OK. agrippa Posted March 16, 2015 Share Posted March 16, 2015 If you have a Sony radio do not switch off using on/off button when leaving car. When you open the door the radio should switch itself off. BHeart Posted March 17, 2015 Share Posted March 17, 2015 Prior to picking up my new Titanium X on 5th March, I had been following this thread with interest because my new car has a colour display with SatNav and I also have heated seats so I'm a bit concerned about this battery issue. I've noticed over the past couple of days that when arrived at my destination, the 'stop/start' would turn the engine off and I don't know if you can leave the car and lock it with the 'stop/start' icon showing, so I pushed down on the clutch to start it and within seconds, 'stop/start' turned the car off again so I started the car again and immediately pressed the 'stop button'. This never happened with my previous November 2013 FiestaTitanium and, with reference to the battery issue, I could leave this car for 3 to 4 weeks without using it and it would start first time so, I'm really hoping that I do not have any battery I issues with my new Titanium X. BryBake Posted March 17, 2015 Share Posted March 17, 2015 I hope that that you enjoy your Titanium once you've got it. It is quite possible to check to see if there is a drain on the battery and I would strongly recommend looking at "Ericthecarguy" on YouTube. He has a very down to earth procedure to check this parasitic drain. The critical thing seems to be to allow the car's system to 'go to sleep' and this can take in the order of 20 minutes or so. Briefly: You need to use a multimeter with an ampere rating of at least 10 (20 might be better) and it must be able to read down to milliamps. Lock the car but leave the bonnet open. (On my car a 13 reg Titanium no alarm is activated) but if your's has the next protection stage up you might have to secure any bonnet operated alarm switch 'off'. Connect your multimeter to (1) the battery earth terminal and (b) another earth point - switch the multimeter to the 10 amp setting. At this point there will be a zero reading because any current will simply be going to earth via the battery earth cable. Now disconnect the battery earth cable at the right-hand end and now any current will be going to earth through the ammeter and you may well see 3 or 4 at first but shortly it will drop down as the systems shut down. After 25 or 20 minutes my meter showed zero and I suppose that maybe any small current didn't register. Eric the Car Guy reckons that 35 milliamps (0.035) is acceptable. If it is more then you're into pulling and replacing the fuses one at a time until you find the one that that is in the affected circuit.
