Twangggg

Hi!

So, I've had this 'twangggggg' when shutting the tailgate since buying the car. But now its started when closing rear doors as well. Its not actually in the tailgate as far as I'm aware.

I don't think its anything major, but it is quite annoying, cant really pinpoint the area except 'rear end' and only way to describe it is like a massive tuning fork ringing lol.

Common issue? Or is it just mine and I'll have to go round whacking things until I find the culprit lol.

Cheers

Tom

My money's on it being one of the rear underbody heatshields above the exhaust :)

Common failure over time, they fracture at their mounting points and drop down over the wide nut/washer which usually hold them in place.

+1 for above, had similar on my car although it was more of a rattle noise for me. Garage fixed for free whilst I was having something else done (probably just switched in a bigger washer!)

Ah, I had to sort one of those on Dads Mondeo but his had fully fallen off and was sitting on the backbox rattling lol. Didn't even think about the heatshields this time, will have a look next time I'm pout there. :)

ive got a couple of different twangs, another possible source is the rear lamps, something inside mine, part of the reflector, twangs when i shut the door or boot, if i take it out and push the reflectors around a bit its fine for a while then works loose again, ive heard a lot of people talk about the heat shield but ive looked and looked and ill be dammed if i can see it loose on the other side, ill jack up the rear and to a propper look one day
