Minnie Posted February 4, 2015 Share Posted February 4, 2015 Hi all...... please help if you can today whilst driving my ford fiesta cut out for no reason and wouldn't start back up..... there where no warning signs car has been driving like a dream and starts first time only bought the car not even a week ago full service history so can't think of what it could be. The fuel pump is working as you can hear at first turn on the ignition.... it's trying to start but won't do the last cough to start engine management light on dash and oil light too but thus happened today when it conked out has anyone had this problem before because it has completely baffled me Mechanic has it now but won't be plugging it in till tomorrow but even he his baffled too Please help ford fiesta LX 1.3 duratec engine ohc it's just had a service before purchase 73000 on the clock and chain driven All help appreciated and welcomed Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Minnie Posted February 4, 2015 Author Share Posted February 4, 2015 No the chain hasn't been checked as yet but aren't they in general given a life time guarantee if kept well oiled and serviced every year?? It hasn't been driving noisy it's been quiet and smooth I was thinking it could possibly be crank sensor, speed control sensor located on gear box or lambor sensor faults as it's not been miss firing hasn't been miss fueled and hasn't shown any worrying signs at all BUt I suppose will know more when it's plugged in if mechanics diagnostics reads the ecu because I am shocked at the £80 ford charge for the privledge absolute joke Just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem and what their solution was before I possibly get charged an arm and a leg for random parts Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
stef123 Posted February 4, 2015 Share Posted February 4, 2015 Not sure what fords take on the timing chain is, but stranger things have happened lol. if you can see inside the oil filler when turning the engine over, if the cams are moving then its ok - i suspect they are interference engines anyway so it wouldnt turn over should it have snapped.. Minnie Posted February 6, 2015 Author Share Posted February 6, 2015 Regardless if you sell a car and after it not even being a week and it breaks down the car is deemed not fit for purpose regardless of whether the failed part is covered on the Warrenty........ a good garage would check simple connections for corrosion and spark plugs etc this is what causes coil packs to fail it wouldn't surprise me if some numpty had steam cleaned the engine bay and this is what has caused the whole problem in the first place...... an apparent service was performed by the garage before I was allowed to collect it so surely if you don't change the coil ht and plugs you would check and test them for out put and corrosion etc 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
stef123 Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 I disagree with it not being fit for purpose, any car can break down at any time - it happens and sometimes out with anyone's control. You should be contacting the garage to give them their place to fix it, that's what trading standards will tell you anyway. If the garage refuse to fix it or pay for you to have it fixed then you may have grounds for action. They have probably only changed the oil - Arnold Clark etc do exactly the same and don't check plugs or connections. I've informed them about what's happened but don't seeM to be that bothered about what happened. the coil pack has been changed but the car is now not running on all cylinders so that's just great!!!! I was close to returning it to the seller. Any dealer MUST offer a 3 month warranty on the vehicle UNLESS it is sold as Spares/repairs or for scrap.
