09ranger
Hi, I've got a 59 Ford Ranger that only came with 1 normal key, does anyone know how I can find out which 2 button remote fob I need 2 purchase, my local Ford dealer have quoted me approx £400 for a new fob & programming, I've seen second hand fobs on e- bay for a fraction of the cost but don't know which type to buy
jeebowhite
i'm not overly familiar with the ranger, but I wonder if your going to need a two or three button?
09ranger
Its a 2 button remote fob
jeebowhite
I presume. Basic lock and unlock? I'm which case you might be able to take the 3 key and just use the two buttons, hopefully it should work and be cheaper than getting just the two key which I think is harder to get a hold of? ALIANATOR
Hi, it's the same as mine a two button fob. If you put a search on eBay for- "ford ranger 2009" and scan through the items then you will see only one type of key fob amongst the items for sale but if you so a direct search for "ford ranger key fob" you will get a confusing mix of key fobs from many fords not only rangers of all ages. You can use these used key fobs but will first need encoding. Allan
ponsaloti
Keys and remote supplied and programed from an auto locksmith. Key about £80. Remote about £100.
jeebowhite
Alternatively there are cheaper ways to sort the key. I got a new key for 60 all in.
ponsaloti
Was that for a ranger ?
jeebowhite
nah that was for a mondeo, but the general practice is the same.

jeebowhite
Possibly I'm no expert on it, but the coding of the key will work, in my case they duplicated the carbon fibre chip into a glass chip.
ponsaloti
Your chip was probably ID60 or ID63. Dead easy to clone or programme into the car. I'll take an educated guess on the ranger being ID8C . There's only a few that have the machinery to can clone this chip. To programme a new key into the system, the number on the immo box needs to be decoded first. Then you have to do a riverdance with the key and ignition. A real pain to code in, especially if the customer is standing next to the car asking " are you having a problem, is it done yet".
