wozzatdci
Hi I intended to swap my wheels around at the weekend to find that my locking wheel nut key has been damaged and is rendered useless thanks to the garage which last took the wheels off: Here is the locking wheel nut: What I would like to know is if someone can tell me what colour code the key I need is to get a replacement of the internet. I want to avoid the £50-odd Ford will charge me for a brand new set of locks. Hope someone can help me. jeebowhite
unfortunately its not that simple. All the patterns look the same, so you need the keycode....
stef123
Should be able to pick up a set for half the price Ford want
Invisible Man
if you have the code for your nuts...see below....then get yourself onto the McGard website and get one ordered. Mine cost 16 Euros delivered and was here within 4 days from Germany. http://shop.mcgard.de/customer-key/

Invisible Man
Unlucky....mine was stuffed inside the handbook....also 2nd hand, but it was still there
jeebowhite
To be honest, your best bet at this point is to buy yourself a replacement set from the interweb, then go to ford, they have the master set and will remove those and you can just install the new.
wozzatdci
If I go to Ford they will only remove the old one if I buy a new set off them. I believe there are only a handful of combinations of Ford keys. I was just hoping someone might post a picture of their wheel nuts and do a comparison... isparky94
I was under the impression you could go to any normal tyre repair centre and get your wheels changed? With a skeleton key? Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
jeebowhite
Not for the lock nuts lol
Invisible Man
I ended up going to a local tyre place. He used a pneumatic chisel to put a grove into them and then turned them off using it. Took him 15 minutes. Charged me £10
merchantofdoom
I had to take my wife's peugeot to the garage for them to remove the locking nuts (kwikfit lost it) it cost me £25 mates rates. I've bought a second hand set off eBay which I am sure look the same. Will let you know if it fits! wozzatdci
Good thing is they offer returns so it will only cost the postage at worst. Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
jeebowhite
Yeah to be fair that's worth a gamble lol
SeanW
Edge of a chisel in the groove and whack in it anti-clockwise. Pneumatic chisel can also be used...just be aware it will damage the wheel if it slips. I had it done after Ford quoted me £35 PER WHEEL to TRY the master keys. If that failed, it would be £85 PER WHEEL to forcibly remove - which could result in needing new wheels...I didn't stay long enough to find out how much they'd charge for that... Round the corner, back street garage "How much mate?" "Err...fiver sound alright?" "Hell yes!!"
jeebowhite
The cheapest fix I had done at my local dealer was getting four lock nuts removed for a fiver :-D
