Black.Ghost
Hi all, first post here (probably of many). My first choice of car is the little humble Mini, but I also have a 2002 Focus 1.8 Zebec, It's actually a pretty decent car if a bit strange looking. I got it for a bargain £150 as it needed a front spring replacing (I did this myself) and an MOT. It has needed a new timing belt (I didn't do this) and is only on 75k. It runs quite nicely but there are a few little things I want to do to improve the car. 1. The stereo. I have already replaced the stereo with an old single din Sony one but don't really like the look with the open tray underneath. I am going to replace the silver trim with black, and go for a double din version. I understand it requires a bit of modding (which I should be able to find on here with a bit of research). However - is it possible to fit the Sony stereo from the Mk2 models? I quite like the look of it and it can be made to look OEM more than others on the market. I'd quite like the bluetooth phone connectivity so would be looking to fit a mic in the car somewhere as well. While I believe it would be possible to make it actually fit, is there a trim panel that can be made to fill the gap between a normal double din rectangle hole and the shape of the stereo? I don't want a big gap all around it. In time, the Speakers will all be replaced as well, possibly with an amp and sub but nothing obnoxious. I'm more interested in quality than volume, and if I can achieve this just with Speakers then I may well do so. 2. Heated leather seats. They seem straight forward enough to install. Would have been nice to do at the start of the winter, but oh well. On this - did Ford ever do a heated steering wheel? It's pretty cold to the touch in the mornings at the moment! 3. Speed sensor. It seems I have developed the common irritate speedo leading to the car cutting out on occasion as well so that needs doing. I was going to do it last weekend, as I was planning on taking it to France for a skiing trip (still skiing, just flying now) so I will get it done when I get back. Are the cheap options (£6-£8) on eBay any good or do I need to be getting a £20-£30 one from Ford? I did briefly look into going for the digital climate control but some quick searching suggests it just isn't worth the hassle for the gain. Does anyone have any other tips on things that I can modify to make it more comfortable? I am not looking for ridiculous speed or anything like that, just little touches to make the commute and trips to visit family a little more comfortable really. Thanks in advance. Edit - oh and electric rear windows will be going in, along with the appropriate control panel in the front.
