helatruralhome
Hi- I have a ticking/whirring noise which has been diagnosed as coming from either the power steering belt or pump. I am also planning on getting my timing belt and water pump replaced soon so the garage I took it to will replace the timing belt, water pump and PAS belt for £280. My question is if I bought the PAS pump from a local breakers yard would it cost much more in labour to fit than if I just had the above fitted or is it quite straightfordward? Thanks for your time! :)
stef123
First question is, will your garage of choice accept parts your supply - either new or salvage.
helatruralhome
That's a point- I thought that they'd just fit whatever compatible parts I gave to them... Hypothetically then- if they were to accept a salvage part- is it a labourious task to replace the pump or is it simple if they are already replacing the timing belt, water pump and PAS belt? stef123
Some garages are funny about it, others will just remind you that there is no warranty on it. I've never done a PAS pump on a fiesta but generally speaking they are quite straight forward in most cases. Usually just 3 bolts holding them in. so at most, an hours labour? helatruralhome
That's good to know that it sounds quite straightforward- I may just continue to get only the PAS belt replaced as the garagre seemed to think that's where the noise was coming from and it did quieten down when they sprayed some white grease on it and (touch wood!) I've had no issues with performance or driveability either..
shaunytee1600
Is this type of power steering pump the same as a petrol ti vct? If so I remember one of the pipes being a pig to undo
helatruralhome
I'm not sure fingers crossed it's just the belt that's gone
shaunytee1600
It was the pipe feeding the pressure out to the rack.lucky for me I could break the pipe as it was the pipes and hose I was replacing.
