Things I Don't Like

I don't like my absence meeting today resulting in a "stage two" sanction, so if I'm off sick again for even one day in the next 12 months then I could quite literally lose my job.  That said, I doubt that would actually happen as I'd get the union involved should they go that far, but it would still be serious.  I could appeal the decision, but to be honest I don't think there is much point, considering I had two separate sick days on two consecutive weeks, which does look bad. 

Needless to say, I'm hitting the wine tonight and the wagon can come by again tomorrow.  Maybe I'll hop on it then!!

You should say that their pressuring you on your sickness is causing stress and therefore making you ill.

Could you not get your health problems recorded as stress related or a recorded disability in which case they would be legally required to help you in any reasonable way.

I could, but I am only getting the same treatment anybody gets, and that is standard company policy. 

To be honest Clive, the stress in fighting them isn't worth it, even if I won.  I'll be out of that job as soon as I can find something else anyway, and nobody in their right mind would use them as a reference so I have no reason to be liked or successful there, all I need is basic employment until something else comes along, and I can get that regardless of warnings.

That's sound like they are trying to do constructive dismissal on you, which is a breach of employment law, among other things.  It's also harassment in the workplace, which I think is covered under the Equality Act.  Your union rep will know.

It might be standard company policy but it doesn't make it legal. 

Many unscrupulous (and in many cases well known) firms bully and threaten their staff into signing/agreeing to unfair and illegal terms conditions and contracts.

Totally agree with GMX.

You need to know your rights and what your company can/can't do.

Unions offer access to legal advisors that are well versed in employment law and you should be able to get a free consultation whereby you can  lay out all the issues and get them onside.

Your company is duty bound to support you and have to offer 'reasonable' concessions such as a less stressful work structure and allow you to be able to have a stress free environment in which to work.

Scissor packaging...  Requiring scissors to open it!! . Fortunately I kept the broken pair and just about managed to open the new pair with them.

I also don't like people, especially at weekends...  People seem to take the p more on roundabouts, forcing a brake, though fortunately the shopping stayed put this time, there's far too many people, especially those small ones that are even more annoying, in Tesco today.  And I've just been to the bin store to find some selfish a hole has dumped unsorted rubbish on the floor and left an entire bed in there!  Eurgh, gonna stay in for the rest of today, can't deal with any more people yet!

I don't like the BMW driver equivalent of forum posters!  Just like BMW drivers cannot park within the lines, these people cannot seem to post Ford related questions in the relevant forum areas, but rather just put them in the general chat area!!

It happens on another forum I use, but thankfully I'm a moderator on there so can move them myself and reprimand the posters.

It was pleasantly blustery and fresh on Brandy's extended walk this morning: it's quite a contrast now, we need another storm to clear the air.

Of all the plastic handled scissors I've owned, they always break there.  Amongst my collection of scissors, Fiskars seem to the most durable and Homebase the least (their rivets let them down too, you have to reset them if you actually plan on cutting with them!)

The broken scissors came in a pack of Russell Hobbs knives but I don't think the scissors themselves are RH, there's no branding on them.

The problem with them is that they seized stiff after every wash, not ideal for kitchen scissors and tbh I'm amazed they lasted the 18 months of being prized apart.

I think it's the plastic centre pivot causing the issue hence trying a metal pivot pair this time...though if they loosen like yours it could be just as bad!

Yes maybe I pulled out in front of you, but had you been doing the speed limit there wouldn't have been the need for you to accelerate within 3" of my bumper and slam your brakes on...

He followed me through various roads for about 3 miles, practically touching my bumper the whole time and swerving erratically in the road, it's times like that I wish I had a rear dashcam. 

Don't think he liked the fact that for a period of time (down an incline) that I pressed the brakes just enough for the lights to come on...i know it's not a good idea but he deserved it.

I don't like trying to finish today's tomato picking by flashlight, it's hard to tell the red ripe "ready to pick" ones from the deep orange "almost ripe" ones  My two boxes contain many of the latter. and the odd "blushing on one side only" but largely  green tomato

My recycling scissors look remarkably like your broken ones, albeit with a red pivot.  Perhaps the red pivot is to distinguish them as Tesco, they're not branded as such, either. I haven't had any seizing yet, I think I've had them for 5 years or so.

Yep, I know the feeling...  Had the exact same thing today only it was a 54 plate Vectra.  Followed me through a 30, then a 40 and finally down a stretch of NSL.  It just shows their immaturity when they accelerate as you pull out, purely so they can slam on the brakes to make it look worse!

That said, you need to be aware of drivers doing more than the speed limit and adjust your driving accordingly.  Even though they were in the wrong for speeding, you could still be classed as in the wrong for pulling out and causing them to slow down...  If that makes sense!

Why are you both pulling out when there are cars coming?  Can you not work out their approach speed?  Or do you believe everyone should be doing 29mph so pull out regardless?  People do the same to me all the time and it winds me up no end, I don't accelerate but I don't brake either so yeah they end up close to my front bumper, they've chosen to be there though!  Hopefully they'll have a bit more consideration next time...

I had 2 do it last night even, thought I'd go for a nice evening drive when the roads were empty but nope, why are these slow-asses about at 10pm!  Doing 10 mph below the speed limit and assuming indicating gives them the right to pull out whenever they like, I can only hope they were drunk tbh...

Because there was plenty of space (had be been doing the speed limit) for me to go and by the time he would've got close to me I would be been doing nearly 30. It's common practice in built up areas, doesn't bother me as a driver as long as there is enough space and they make the effort to speed up. 

Maybe I left it a weeny bit late, but I wouldn't pull out if I didn't think there was enough space to do so! (I'm not one of 'those' that just pull out regardless) Either way his actions thereafter were entirely of his doing...

If you'd have reached nearly 30 when he was only doing 30 sounds too close to me tbh.  I think we'll have to agree to disagree there.

I can honestly say I never have anyone up my rear end after pulling out of junctions or roundabouts.

I'm not saying I was completely in the right, just that a minor thing didn't warrant his erratic and dangerous behaviour.

I'll try and be more patient whilst waiting at junctions in the future.

I most certainly am not Tom, and am firmly of the view that "if in doubt, stop".  Although looking at my reply it does insinuate that I too pulled out on the Vectra in question, which was not the case.  In fact, she pulled out of a junction behind me and was purely irritated by the fact I was obeying the speed limits...

My reference was to cars which are a safe distance away when you pull out, and if they maintained their speed would not have a problem, but choose to deliberately accelerate in order to cause a problem which wasn't there in the first place!

I have had the idiots pull out on me though when I'm doing the speed limit, and unless they immediately realise their mistake and wave et cetera, they'll get a blast of my horn and yes, a close encounter with my front bumper whilst I slam the brakes on.  I back off immediately though as you can't hold grudges when driving, such as tailgating someone for miles because of one mistake.

But, to clarify - I do not pull out when cars are too close/too fast.  It is a major irritant to me and I wouldn't do it to somebody else.  Just had to clear that up!

I don't know how she managed to do it, but between coming back from her walk and hanging her lead up, Brandy managed to get her right front paw through the neck hole of her harness, and then got the hole wedged on her chest

She then wasn't very co-operative, as I tried to persuade her to withdraw her paw, so I could get it off Wriggling and writhing, interspersed with multiple rolls. I thought I might have to cut it off (her harness not her paw) as it looked she was well and truly stuck.  Eventually, she let me pull the harness forward whilst pushing her paw back though the hole, with the promise of tuna in her bowl

I don't like how fiddly it is to peel shallots compared to their onion cousins  They might have finer flavour: but they're a pain to peel, it took close to half an hour to peel half a kilo

I also don't like having to call out a locksmith, after my Mum lost her only remaining key to her room lock.  It wasn't in any of her usual hidey holes, that are scattered around the house.  He should be here shortly.

Unfortunately, the lock is from the Stronghold range from Union, a 5-lever deadlock with all the anti-burglar features.  The door also opens inwards, hampering any hinge removal 

Whilst I can get in destructively with either my hydraulic ram and spreading wedge, or by cutting around the lock with a jigsaw, I didn't want the hassle of having to replace and refit a new door, transfer the fittings, and then taking the lock to a locksmith to get them to make replacement keys.

I also don't like the 405's rear suspension getting noticably lower and groaning at low speeds.  Given their reputation for failing rear axles, I'm fearing the worst...  That said, I did ask my mechanic about it at the last MOT and his words were "you'll know when it needs replaced, because it'll start steering from the rear end", and so far it still corners perfectly with no fish-tailing.  Hopefully it'll last another month or two, as a refurbished axle is around £300 online, and the labour to have it fitted (plus extra parts that would probably break along the way) would be over £100 in itself. 

Ah, the joys of owning a 20 year old French car, and running it as your daily driver...  I've been tempted to buy an old Fiesta/Focus/Mondeo/Escort as a work car and make the 405 my weekend cruiser, but full insurance for two vehicles would outweigh the financial benefit of less rapairs to the 405.  That said, my left knee is begging me to get an automatic, so if one of the aforementioned models came up for the right price and was an auto, I would be very tempted.
