I know the feeling as my osf coil went yesterday while turning left reversing into a parking space as their was slight groaning noise then a load thunk and then the front just dropped but i've no spare readies to sort it just yet so hoping to sort it next week so this is how it sits on the drive atm ...

Ouch!  I've never had a spring go in any of our vehicles, which is surprising given the amount of pot holes and speed bumps in my area!!

Never broken one in a car before, had one go in a truck a couple of times though!!! If a spring goes on a truck it HAS to be taken off the road immediately, and bosses REALLY like trucks being off the road for a few days................not!

This is the first one I've had go on any car I've had. However talking to people who live near me, a large percentage have had coils go since the speed bumps were put it. And this is on a range of cars. Some 10+ years old, youngest is a year.

Emailing the council, futile, but I'll try!

Write to your local MP as well, they probably won't do anything but worth a try even if you just carbon copy them into the email to the council.

I don't like this... But, it could have been worse and the failures were not surprising as I knew one wheel bearing was gone and heard the knocking over bumps. I thought the handbrake would scrape by, but alas not! I'm waiting on a quote now from the garage to do the work.

Well, got the quote back and it is a bit more than expected...  £304!!  That's including the MOT test fee, but it's just too much.  I could buy a replacement vehicle with at least 6 months MOT for £300 plus sell the Focus without MOT for £80-100, so it just doesn't make sense to get the work done at that cost.

I bought it last September for £190 and have put no money into it in repairs since then, so it owes me nothing.  As much as I love the car, I can't afford to throw that kind of money at it.

You lucky bugger  although this is only my 2nd in over 22 years so not to bad really as my other was in 1996 and was a offside rear coil on a mk4 Ford Escort ..

I'm not bragging but i think i've not had more than 3 fail catagories on a MOT so far ...

Well if it were my Focus i'd not be paying that to get it sorted any way as i'd be fixing it myself and couldn't see it costing me more than £100 with the cost of the MOT ..

Yeah, but unfortunately I don't have the skills nor any off-road parking to do the work, so I am reliant on a garage as I don't have any friends or family who are mechanics.

I don't like that i have no idea on the number of people I'll be catering for tomorrow evening, I'm throwing a sort dinner party.  it will be at least 4 but could be as many as 22 (if they all bring their partniers).  So far, only 3 have confirmed they are: and one has confirmed she won't:mellow:

It tremendously hard to buy food and drink: when you don't know how much will be needed:unsure:

I've not had a coil go, but i once had a rear shock absorber part from the axle with a massive bang, on the way to my booked MOT slot:ohmy:  literally yards from the test centre:sad:.  I did suggest to the tester that he abort the test and I would return when I'd replaced them later: as there little point in testing it.

Guess I'm the only one who doesn't enjoy trying to revise 300+ pages of Biology whilst also having 5 other subjects to do?

Can't wait for 4 months off and then university (supposing I get in!) it'll be easy peasy compared to this!

I know of one other: my neighbour's daughter is at it too, for her degree Marine Biology rather than all Biology

Well i don't have what you can call skills to do these jobs just some common sense n patience, some experience i've gained over the years and a shared driveway and i've done brakes and exhausts and minor servicing over the years half parked on the street and on the pavement and i actually have two relatives one who is a fully qualified mechanic and the other who has been a trainee mechanic and both aren't  interested in helping out unless your offering payment but are their like a shot when theirs something for nothing being offered ..

I don't like the thought of chocolate at moment,

After a day out at Cadbury world a bag full of freebies then a walk around the shop I'd be happy if I never had to eat it again 😆

I don't like that ford still have my car, they want it for another week and if they can't get to the bottom of it they will have to ring Ford. They have apparently put over 200 miles on it.

It's a warranty issue and it had 3/4 of a tank of petrol in it. Am I right in thinking that they should give it back with the same amount still in it? They want the courtesy car back as they handed it over to me.

I don't like only having the Volvo for one day and it already blowing one of the tail lamps!!  Thinking back our old V40 liked to blow at least one bulb on a weekly basis, so it seems this one will be no different.

Would a voltage stabiliser kit help this ?

If it's just blowing tail light bulbs and indicator then it's probably not worth investing but if its blowing headlight bulbs aswell then there a bit more expensive,

it may be worth investing in a battery earthing cable kit or a pivott megarazin voltage stabiliser.

beware of replicas on eBay here's the genuine article https://pivotjp.com/product/vs-m/vs-m-e.html I've purchased replicas and they drain your battery, I've also documented the differences on here a few years back.

also earth kit, fit cable from body of altinator to the battery, another from battery to engine block, another from battery to body panels etc.

helps stabilise voltage by helping the return from chassis and engine to the battery.

No headlamps blown as yet, and the old V40 only blew one in 2 months of ownership so I don't expect any major issues there.  Even if it does I have a couple of spare H4 bulbs I took out of the 405 when I upgraded to Nightbreakers, so I'll keep them in the boot as spares.

It is the tail lamps specifically that always seem to blow on the V40s.  Particularly the ones on the boot lid mounted light cluster, as opposed to the "outer" lights.  So it isn't the end of the world really as two tail lights is enough, it doesn't really need all four (two on each side), but my OCD doesn't like it!!

Fortunately it has a bulb failure indicator in the dash but that only covers the brake lamps.

What can I say, Volvos and their electrics...  Almost as bad as Fiats!!

Purchase a 1 or 2 meter length of 8AWG earth cable with crimp ring terminal ends,

For to a bolt on the chassis inside the boot compartment and fit the other and to a bolt on the boot door.

shouldn't cost you more than 12 pounds and it should help stabilize voltage on the boot door as the greased hinges may not transfer the best.

I don't like going out onto our front lawn this morning to see that someone has let their dog s**t on our grass!!! Our garden isn't fenced etc so folk walking by don't seem to appreciate the fact that they are letting their dogs walk all over MY grass!!!  All they need to do is ask and I would even give them a poopbag to clean it up.................cos that's what responsible owners do, clean up after their dogs! Rant over.
