Things I Don't Like

Recommended Posts

I don't like taking the wrong exit off the A352 and ending up on some narrow to point of almost being a footpath:ohmy: D road behind Bovington Camp.  Although it was rather scenic, it added a good 20 minutes to the journey home.  The whole point was to avoid A351 around Wareham and it's half an hour worth of gridlock:laugh:

No it was an idiot in a vauxhall...

Need I say more? Either they're in front of you and farting about or they're behind you and up your tailpipe.

I then had one of those once I'd got back on the A31, in white Insignia:sad:

Last week my pet cokatiel took a turn for the worse.

Poor little sod has had problems with his tail for a while, but it wasn't really bothering him - so we just kept up with antibiotics & steroids and kepylt an eye on him.  I say "we" - I mean my parents - I've been on cadet courses and staying with my OH in between.

Last Tuesday he started really going for his sore bit and really struggled balancing (lack of tail feathers made this difficult anyway).  Mum rang me to tell me, and I agreed with what she said.

Charlie was put to sleep - the vet agreed that he was basically on his way out now, and that it would be cruel to keep him going.

Nearly 10 years to the day since we acquired the little sod.  He was about 4 or 5 when he came to us - so for a cockatiel, he was a brave old age!!  Even more amazing that he'd had a rough few years before we got him.  We honestly didn't expect him to live as long as he did!!  I think his last 10 years have been good - otherwise he wouldn't have fought the infection (and suspected cancer) as much as he did.

He was a little git, could be grumpy - but I do love him, always will do!!

Fly free little birdie!!

Sorry to hear that @SeanW it's never easy when one of our beloved family pet is ill and has to be taken out of its pain, he'll be in a happy place now. Either that or he will come back in his next life as a peacock

Which cadets are you in? Are you still a cadet or staff now? I was in the ATC myself, had an awesome time.

I know it was the right decision - doesn't make it any easier.

I'm a Sea Cadet Instructor - currently the Training & Boats Officer...trying to palm those roles off before I go back to sea lol

I don't like squirting petrol in my eye whilst trying to get my son's scooter to run!

P.S if there's any scooter/bike experts on here I'd love to pick their brains 😉

TV programmes that involve Cooking, Baking, Dancing or Singing
That's all of them isn't it?!

Oh wait I forgot the ones that involve people watching TV watching people watching TV and the ones with hideously spoilt brats and their tangled love lives...

It does seem like it, doesn't it?

But some famous person (that people over 15 have never heard of) has a 'Food Heaven' that is say, Spaghetti Bolognese......... Wow, that's a fact I just don't know how I'd have got through the day without knowing!!!

Sorry, I'm sounding like a "Grumpy Old Man" now

Not sure if people count as a 'thing', but I'll say nonetheless:

People who don't have an ounce of a sense of humour, and take everything seriously. Life is way too short for that!

Nowadays, you have to tread on your toes, otherwise the humour police will arrive in full force and start throwing labels at you - 'homophobe', 'misogynist', 'sexist', etc.

I don't think this is the place to be 'disliking' people. Everybody feels differently about things and what's funny to one person is not always funny to someone else. What really annoys me is people that don't know what sarcasm is

Fair enough mate, of course anyone is welcome to disagree with me, we are lucky enough to live in a tolerant and free country, with freedom of speech.

However if anything, I genuinely believe those people unjustifiably dishing out such extreme labels are actually the ones causing offense.

Anyway, in order to keep matters civil on this forum, perhaps best to move onto other topics.

I don't like my wife's solution to the problem of the bin being full.

Driving home from work, minding my own business, and all of a sudden my car feels like it's "pulling back" - much more sharply than just taking your foot off the accelerator... It does this once in a blue moon, and i'm yet to figure out what exactly is going on (but it normally only happens on high speed roads like dual carriageways)... certainly wakes you up on the drive home!

I think my reference to sarcasm was perhaps a little bit to subtle pal, I don't disagree with you at all, quite the contrary. You're spot on, the world is far too PC now. And again your right when you say that those doing the 'name calling' are often the most offensive. People seem to get offended just for the sake of it now, and don't even get me started on people that take offence on other people's behalf. How is that even possible?

It takes a hell of a lot to offend me, I've got thick skin and a somewhat 'strange' sense of humour. I'm often very close to the line with my jokes. It makes for an interesting game of Cards Against Humanity with the in laws

I don't like coming into the office this morning, to find one of the monitors displaying

"STOP: c000007b Unknown Hard Error

Unknown Hard error.

Beginning dump of physical memory"

I've already had several surprise reboots and then  "Reboot and Select proper Boot device" messages over the last few days from that PC, a couple of random BSOD's and what at first glance on Saturday appeared to be a completely unbootable PC.  Which I thought I'd solved: but clearly not.

Having run a number of tests, it's looking ever likely that the hard drive has unrepairable bad sectors.  Unfortunately that PC is the one I run most of my specialist software from, a high proportion of which is legacy stuff. Whilst replacing the hard drive isn't an issue, it's the 3 days of re-installing and configuring the software that follows: I could do without!

On a more positive note, one of the reasons I now always use enterprise class hard drives is the MTF. This particular hard drive has run for close to 20 years non-stop, (reboots aside)  There was a time when I wasn't fussy to the class of the hard drives and suffered a massive data loss with the some infamous IBM Deskstar, or Deathstar as they became known:laugh:

Unfortunately that hard drive is one of 12 bought at the same time, from the same batch, scattered across my PCs.  Which might mean all of them are going to go the same way way shortly:sad:

Too late. Bad sectors will not read into an image without corrupting so you'd just be transporting the problem.

You might get very lucky with a high pass defrag if the bad sectors also happen to contain fragmented data and are anything close to readable.

That's likely to take 3 days as well though...

Other option is to bung your HDD into another machine with a good MBR and dual boot the drive but sounds like it's past that already.

At least youve had a warning for the remaining 11. Time to load up Acronis and quickly!!!

Thought I would share this with you in case it's of any interest to anyone. I found this app called VehicleSmart, available on Android and the Apple app store, put in your reg plate and you can set it up to get reminders for when your MOT and tax is due.

The basic app is free but if you pay £1.99 you can get extra reminders for insurance etc

http://www.getvehiclesmart.com

I like finding out about a free service from the DVLA! Free MOT reminder email. https://www.reminders.mot-testing.service.gov.uk

After driving for a good 10 miles with no handbrake application I'm not sure. It certainly feels more than just dropping the acceleration. I have wondered if a misfire or even something like unwanted abs activation however there is no abs noise when it happens. It's too intermittent to really keep any kind of data logging going...

Edit: Tried the handbrake on the way home - anything over 20mph it doesn't really make a massive difference - certainly no better than just easing off the accelerator... under 20mph it has a more obvious action when applied.
