Hi all,

I've been reading around the internet lately that the Ecoboost 1.0 125hp engine is abysmal when it comes to real world MPG figures.

Out of interest what are people getting at the moment with theirs?

I picked up my 2014 Mk3 Focus Zetec S with the Ecoboost 1.0 125 engine last week and I'm currently averaging 53 mpg - that's with about 50% motorway (60mph) and 50% urban. At 70mph for about 200 miles, I got about 47 mpg. It's a little disappointing after all the hype I read but it compares favourably with my previous Mondeo 1.8 Econetic diesel which managed just under 53 mpg at 50% motorway (60mph) and 50% urban.

Fuel economy depends on so many different factors, including individual driving style

That's more than what I was expecting really. :) As above I guess it depends on a load of factors. I've heard that putting the engine in to the highest gear possible is also bad for economy, because you're putting unnecessary load on to the engine which it has to compensate for. Not sure if this has been proven however...

unless you drive the same route its really not worth trying to compare, even then an awful lot can change the figures from one person to the next an that's not even considering different driving styles of the driver.

Take its lowest mpg that ford say it can achieve and that's close to what to expect anything higher is a bonus

I did a 230 mile largely motorway round trip in a 64 plate 1.0 125 with 2k on the clock and I only managed 43-44 mpg.

As I said I always find the lowest qouted mpg by a manufacturer is the closest which is usually the urban mpg

I've had mine a week. When I got it, it was 4 months old and had done 900 Miles. Computer said 35 MPG. I've only driven it from the house to work, 10 miles each way, 30 or 40 MPH through the villages with a small section of 60 limit. I reset the computer when I filled the tank the day after I got it. Now showing 45 MPG, I had to work quite hard to get there, still experimenting with whether 40 on the level should be 5th or 6th gear.

I would suggest 5th. 6th and even on a flat might labour the engine and wear the DMF.
