Turning The Wheel When Not Moving

I had to get out of a very tight parking space yesterday, so had no choice but to steer when not moving, which is something I always try to avoid when possible.

I've heard this can damage the tyres and cause wear to the track rod ends, but is there any truth in this or am I being too careful with my steering?

It certainly is true Phil, it's commonly known as '' scrubbing the tyres '' & will reduce the lifespan of the tyres & stress the steering components, keep it to a minimum :)

I thought so, and I see so many people doing it just to save themselves a couple of seconds when setting off. In my case it was either turn the wheels while not moving, or take about 30 turns to get out of the space, lesson learnt is to never park forwards into a space.

I had to turn from lock to lock, and could hear some creaking which was a bit worrying lol. But hopefully it shouldn't be a problem because I do this so rarely, always taking my time when I can, moving slowly just so I can steer and taking an extra turn if needed.

Yes that helps lol, and I was quite impressed with how light the steering was, it didn't take much effort at all.
