I'm Contemplating Slapping A Large Turbo Engine Into My Van But Which One

I love my escort van but the 55 diesel is terrifically slow, so I was thinking of putting a faster TD engine into it but I don't know which one, I'd have to give up some space in the van if didn't use a ford engine but not sure what to do?

Any advice?

Easiest option to gain the most power would be to stick the 1.8 zetec 130ps petrol engine in it.

It's a good option but wanna retain some economy I used to have a 1.6 TDCi zetec which was amazing fuel economy but a lot newer and don't fancy wiring that bugger into an old escort so need a more practical beast engine that has some economy

That sounds like a monster dude :D I want it lol, why on earth did you get rid?!!

My mate was doing some research he said I can fit any mondeo or focus engine (90's ones) in there with ease so was contemplating a 2litre mondeo turbo diesel, what do you think bud?

Rot and would have cost £1500 to weld it so was not worth it mondeo one would be good or petrol engine conversion would be quite easy to do

Done to death I know, but Cosworth FTW. To hell with economy!

Have you considered any Honda engines? Very rev happy and VTEC to boot... People can diss the rice but Honda make quick engines...

I'd love a cossy engine but trying to find one I bet it'll cost a fortune :) haha.

Honda do make good engines one of my first cars had the 2.2 vtec engine and was fast! :D

I'm guessing most older engines fit in the vans bay?

2.0 zetec silver or black top is what I shall go with and turbo it with cossie management and plenum obviously with upgraded internals and look at a rear wheel drive conversion

Someone once put a 27 litre Merlin in a SD1. With a bit of work and a big hammer you could make anything fit!

Hi Saul found out that the rs2000 4x4 rear will all up to my chassis fine as all the bolt holes are there according to a post I read earlier via the power of Google

I think Sierra floor pan unless the 4x4rs2000 rear suspension components will be strong enough after another page I have read so could be alot of work but there is a good garage I know who could help me with info on the build I want to achieve
