jeebowhite
haha, so I just had one of those awkward conversation moments with a neighbour who lives miles down the road lol so I live on a one way street, dont have a garage or a driveway so working on my car is just on the roadside, but for the MOT, I need to do a full brake overhaul. a neighbour at the far end of the street has a nice flat concrete drive which used to be a garage before they knocked it down. So I thought "I need somewhere to work, they have somewhere" and its one of those moments where before you do it, it seems like a great idea lol. So I hobbled down the road, knocked on the door and started with "Hi, I live down the street and have a really odd question to ask...." there was a look of puzzle on their faces.... So i asked about borrowing their driveway, and then all of a sudden the whole "great idea" seemed really daft, and I felt out of my depth. She was nice enough, and I offered to chuck her a few quid for the privelage, and she seemed easy going, anyway she asked for my number and said she might get back to me later on when she has had a chat with her husband... Dont ask dont get is my mantra! so I might find myself in a win situation and I can do the work off the road, and help a neighbour too, and worst case I just have to work on the roadside. It was one of those - seriously... wtf are you doing moments I had though lol Anyone else find themselves in similar situations? :p

Ford_Man
Is she fit ? I did wonder if that was the reason for have bottle to do that ;) haha
jeebowhite
Haha I wouldn't say she is fit mate, but no it was random and even the wife laughed at me for doing it. I must admit it sounds weird as hell but hey you never know lol. It's a luxury I miss from living at home with my parents big driveway to do all the work on, living in town these days drives are rare to come by in a house I can afford to rent... Haven't had a text yet lol
laumk7
Probably thought you were just winding them up, pop a note through :) Sent from my iPad using Ford OC
jeebowhite
Yeah I thought about that, so I had a note written incase they didnt answer the door lol!
AdeMk1
Like you say, you don't ask you don't get! I can use a ramp at work whenever I need one, failing that I have to travel 15 miles to a mates house if I need a driveway to work on the car. Tsoski
At least you didn't bottle it and just hand her the note and stand there sheepishly while she read it
stef123
I don't know if its my way of convincing myself but here is how I look at it. Put yourself in her shoes, if some young (pahahahah ) lad from up the road come to your door and asked about possibly using the drive or bit of flat ground, what would you say? I know if I had a drive and it was just someone from up the road I would probably say bash on - no problem. But well done for asking though James :)
jeebowhite
haha, yeah love the not so young comment you inferred :p but to be fair, I did offer her cash in exchange for using her driveway :P
stef123
haha, yeah love the not so young comment you inferred :P but to be fair, I did offer her cash in exchange for using her driveway :P Up the front or the back sir
jeebowhite
Up the front or the back sir well..... to be fair, I even dropped the footy ground an email and asked them if I could use their car park - if they say no I have two other options, use the general parking area (not a clue if its council owned or footy ground owned!) or just do it on the roadside... I dont care either way, recon I will need to take a couple of days off next week to get the job done.
salsheikh
fair play James for having the balls to do it luckily for me i have a nice flat drive and the old man has a pit i can use and he only lives 5 mins away from me. plus if i ask nicely works let me use there's. i dont do anything major, purely cosmetic stuff. leave the hard grafting to my dad who is a mechanic.
FocusSmudge
I don't blame you James. I'd do the same.if I was desperate for some flat ground to work on. Did make me laugh but don't ask, don't get. Worse they can say is no!

SeanW
Nothing quite as awkward as emptying a cupboard finding a s*x-help video belonging to your Mother when she's stood behind you...THAT was awkward!!
jeebowhite
Hahaha that is awkward lol. No response, I think her husband probably said no lol but I have backup plans in place.
Dales
That would have been one of those conversations her husband wouldn't have expected when he came home from work. A strange thing happened today. A strange man who is seemingly our neighbour bla bla bla lol. But as already stated. You don't ask you don't get. You have actually made my day lol

gus607
Many many moons ago when I was an aprentice, we had a bloke who asked if he could use our worksop to repair his Jag one weekend !
SeanW
At least when I borrow a driveway, it belongs to friends of mine lol However, I've recently gained access to a workshop with a pit for occasional personal use and whenever needed for my Sea Cadet boats lol
