Has the engine restarted & it's making a noise whilst running or are you having problems getting it fired up again?

sounds like something is broken between the flywheel and starter motor. could you post a video or sound of the noise?

Sadly I cant send a video as the garage now has the keys and will pick it up at somepoint. All that happens is I turn the key and get power and then whiizzzzzz and nothing more

Yep doesn't sound good then, hopefully its just the starter tooth that's broken and nothing more, let us know the outcome! hopefully its a simple and cheap one :)

Ive had over the winter a squeaking noise from a belt im guessing when its cold which I had this morning and then turned a corner, stalled and then the whizzing noise when trying to start

Don't want to put the mockers on it but the way you described how it happened and the noise could possibly be the cambelt snapped .

I hope it's not that but belts can snap anytime belt could still be on but sheard the teeth might be wrong but i have heard that sound on a few occasions and it's odd you stalled then no start just putting two an two together hope I'm wrong does the engine turn at all could you rock it in gear .

What I mean is put it in gear with the ignition off handbrake off and see if the engine/belt turns whilst giving it a pull from the front one way of seeing if the belt is still intacted can you see the cams turning if you take the oil filler cap off and rock it in gear .

When you say got nothing did the engine revolve or just as if it had locked up don't try it on the key all you want to do is see if you can do a full turn of the engine by moving it by hand the easiest way is put it in forth if it won't move you have a big problem .

Yeah from the video sounds like the engine is spinning freely when it shouldn't be. Is the 1.8 a non-interferenve engine?

all are interferance engines on the petrol

The more I hear it the more I'm convinced the belt has gone .sounds like no compression .

does sound like the cambelt has gone... the belt you're looking at in the video is the fan belt... the belt that drives the alternator and ancillaries

Balls.... I had it changed last year and I had my car serviced last week and asked the guy to check the belt as it was squeaking and he said it seemed ok but if thats gone.. I hope the engines ok, what do you guys think?
