alexp999
If you have a 2013 Focus, it uses LEDs, not bulbs in the footwells...
Tasape
is the G4 the correct one? at the moment the led in there is Weak to say the least
alexp999
It is an SMD led, which is soldered on to the PCB of the footwell light unit. I don't think you can just swap it out for a standard one.
Tasape
bummer i was hoping to swap it out guess ill have to find a plan B
Rumblestrip
Would removing the SMD LED and replacing it with a different coloured LED work? Sent by mind control using Ford OC
Tasape
ill have to give it a try just plain weird, the difference between to 2013 models cant get my head around it some titaniums hav some havent must have been a friday build all the odd bits left chuck in what ever card need finishing for the weekend
alexp999
All mk3 Titanium Foci, should have the same light housing with SMD led afaik. Only the titanium X is different, that has an onboard controller, with RGB LEDs, to make the different colours.
iantt
Some 2 pin connector and some 3 pin connector. Colour changing 3 pin I think.
alexp999
Yeah, the red ones are the 2 pin, interior light live feed and the dimming control to the BCM. Multi-color (titanium x) is 3 pin, power feed from ALC (Ambient light control), LIN slave from ALC and ground.
Tasape
I'm just confused to which ones i want im deffo 2 pin but when i see all these ac or dc or ac/dc i dont know whivh i need http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/G4-G9-Capsule-Bulbs-Day-Warm-White-Led-Light-1-5W-3W-5W-Replace-Halogen-Lamp-UK-/281589660398
JW1982
Your eBay link does only show G4 LED light bulbs. The Focus MK3 footwell lights do not have a G4 light bulb. The footwell lights are a circuit board with a resistor and a single SMD LED. Replacing the stock footwell light circuit boards with a more brighter, more powerful LED which draws a higher current may even damage the Body Control Module. If you want to change the color of the footwell lights you have to desolder the SMD LED from the circuit board and replace it with a different color SMD LED of the same type. I changed the color of the footwell lights on my Focus MK3 from red to Ice Blue. I used the original Ice Blue SMD LED's from a spare original MK3 interior light I had. This way the footwell lights have exacly the same color as all of the other interior lights.

Tasape
i am assuming then i could not fit any aftermarket lights in there ?
Rumblestrip
Assuming you can't get spares, removing the original LEDs and replacing with a different colour is a fairly simple job to do. There are loss of different coloured LEDs that will fit in. Might give it a go myself soon when I get the soldering iron kit. I'm assuming the door pocket and handle escutcheon lights have the same kind of lighting? Anyone looked at these?
JW1982
As far as I know most of the Ambient Lighting circuit boards are the same. If you want to change the LED on these circuit board you may have to modify the circuit board. The original red SMD LED has 4 small contact pads (1 positive and 3 negative). Most SMD LED's do only have 2 larger contact pads (1 positive and 1 negative). If you want to use a SMD LED with 2 contact pads you have to cut a circuit of the circuit board to avoid a short circuit.

JW1982
I have some spare circuit boards of the footwell lights. I will take some pictures later and explain what needs to be modified to replace the SMD LED's.
JW1982
As far as I remember the size of these SMD LED's is approximately 2.5 mm x 2 mm.
Rumblestrip
How do you cut the circuit? Stanley blade through the circuit itself? What voltage are the SMDs please?
JW1982
I cutted the circuit with a very small, very sharp pair of cutting pliers (Specifically designed for circuit boards and small electronics). Because I used the original Ice Blue SMD LED's from the interior light I do not know the exact voltage.
