Advice On Mounting A Dash Camera

So guys I've bought my first dash cam. It's a mio mivue 538 and the advice I'm looking for is in mounting the camera. The part I don't like is the supplied mount that came with the camera as it looks far to much like its for a satnav. So I'm wanting something a little more discreet to stop idiots being tempted to smash a window thinking OH LOOK THERES A SATNAV SOMEWHERE IN THE CAR!!! As we all know these idiots are far to common these days.

Has anyone mounted there camera behind there rear view mirror using a different mount than the one supplied with the camera or ideas of how to do it so it's not looking like a satnav is in the car.

you have a few options, but not knowing that cam or its mount I will offer generic advice...

1) you could opt to attach it to the protected area behind the mirror (the black dotted bit) and that would make it more discreet.

2) you could make a new mount for it and secure it to that

3) you could modify the mount you have and attach it to the headlining in some way.

Thanks for the reply. I've tried a few different places and I've settled with it in the protected area on the windscreen and this seems to have hidden it quite well. I've then hidden the wire by putting it behind the headlining then running it down the seal and behind the glove box. Then under the trim on the centre console to the rear 12v socket so I can keep my front one free if I need it. It's just a shame the rear 12v socket is constantly powered so I have to unplug the dash can ever time. Instead of it powering off with the ignition like the front one does. I can live with that though as its a small price to pay so I don't get caught out by another crash for cash scam like I did nearly 2 years ago now.

Thanks again Jeebowhite.

No worries!

I ran the same layout with my car, though I cheated, and might be able to offer a suggestion!

I bought a simple "motorcycle 12v" from eBay. I then chopped the ring ends off,and stripped off the insulation. My 12v switches off with the car after 15 minutes or so, and so I took the positive that I had stripped, and slipped it down in with the live feed for the 12v sockets, and the negative I did the same. When it was in place, I secured the wires together with amalgamating tape to ensure a good connection. (To clarify, this is the block junction I tapped, under the centre console where the rear connects in as well) so I could tap off the wiring. I then connected a multipoint 12v connector into the newly tapped 12v, and placed that under the centre console and ran all the wires to it. if yours is the same, then you should be able to achieve the same affect as I did, no need to worry about plug and unplug, or draining the cars battery.

Definitely a worthwhile investment, but good to see you can hide it enough with the protected area.

Thanks for the advice I'll look into wiring it in that way.
