UK car sales rose by 2.4% in July compared with the same month last year, the first rise since April last year, latest industry figures have shown.

The number of new cars sold in the UK during the month was 157,149, said the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

It attributed the rise to the scrappage incentive scheme, worth £2,000 a car, which came into effect in May.

Sales so far this year are still down 22.8% on the same period last year.

Don't care - I WANT MINE!!!

Make that 77,001 then...

77,002 if I include mine. Dealer insists it's still on course for delivery later next month. If my maths are correct - and going by July's sales figures for the Fiesta - then by the time I get mine, there will be a further 18,000 Fiesta's on Britain's roads by late September. That makes the car far too popular/common for my liking & I will therefore have to trade it in as soon as I get it! ;)

Alfa MiTo me up...or VW Golf TSi.

* only joking

Oh yes, number 1! :D and notice something else? The BMW 3 series is STILL beating the Mondeo. They must be laughing all the time at Audi and Mercedes, the 3 series has always consistently beaten them both in the sales charts.

Hopefully only another month for me??

The only downside to the BMW selling so well is it does not have the kudos it once did - years ago owning a BMW was a status symbol - now if someone says they have one I straight away think they must be a rep!

people only buy them cos they are cost effective...only reason

I'd never get one then - never brought a car in my life using my head - always go with the heart . . .

I think the 3-door dressed-up squeeze version might be a common sight along the West Sussex & Hampshire coasts in the not-too-distant

future though my friend!
