Fiesta Mk7 on order (Can't wait!) ... Excited Newbie!

Hi all,

This is my first time ... please be gentle with me! :)

I ordered a brand new, shiny Fiesta Zetec 1.4 (Mk7) on 21-07-09, (through the scrappage scheme), and have been told it would take about ten to twelve-ish weeks to arrive. (Can't wait!). I am one of the rare minority who's ordered a 'Colorado Red' Fiesta - (we've always had red cars - a bit of a tradition). I'll post some pics as soon as I get the car, as there doesn't seem to be many (or any that I could find) red Mk7 Zetecs on the forum or gallery at the moment ... just in case anyone out there would like to see what the colour actually looks like.

While I'm waiting for the car to be born, I've been reading through this excellent forum, (all 145 pages and counting!), and as you all seem such a friendly bunch I decided to register and say hello.

Just wondered, in the meantime, if anyone could kindly answer a couple of slight queries that have been going through my mind, (sorry if I've missed this info in any previous topics):

The new Zetec's all have QuickClear heated windscreens. The car I looked at in the showroom was a model without the heated screens so I never really got the chance to see what they looked like before I ordered my Zetec. I've since been in a car with a QuickClear screen and I was a bit concerened about how visible the wire elements were. So, my long-winded question is:

What are your experiences with these screens? Are the wires distracting at all, (either during the day in bright sunshine or at night when illuminated by oncoming headlights etc) or do you eventually get used to them? I'm used to driving cars and vans with totally clear windscreens and I'm slightly concerned about having to peer through fine chicken wire ... or am I worrying about nothing?

My second question is about the car keys. I know you get an electronic/remote key plus a 'standard' one, but was just wondering if I ever lost the remote key would I still be able to manually open the door and start the ignition/drive the car with the standard spare one - or is there an immobilizer (like my old Renault Megane) which actually needs a remote/electronic key to disable it before you can start the engine? (Hope this all makes sense!) Don't really want to go to the expense of a second 'remote' key if it's not really necessary.

Anyway, that's all I can think of at the moment ... don't want to bore you all rigid with my first post.

Cheers,

Paul.

Spec of car on order:

Ford Fiesta 1.4 Zetec (59 plate)

Petrol/manual transmission

Colorado Red

3-door

No added extras (apart from a spare wheel instead of the shaving foam)

(Old Renault Megane put in through the scrappage scheme)

Hi Paul and welcome.

Welcome to the 'waiting for the mk7 club'

I had a heated screen on my old Ka - and you won't even notice the lines except for when you focus on them on purpose. They are however more visible when wearing polarised sunglasses.

As for your key question - I can't really comment. I had 2 keys with the Ka - one with the remote controls and one just a plain key. Apart from the fact that there were no unlock/lock/boot release buttons on the spare key, it did everything that the main key did.

Hiya and welcome to the Mk 7 Fiesta queue!

I have been in numerous Fords with heated screens and never had any problems with them - some of the older models you used to get some 'starburst' at night with overhead lights but the newer ones have such fine wires embedded in the screen that you struggle even to see them.

Not sure about the keys but I would assume that the manual one would over-ride any security system otherwise it wold be a pointless piece of metal!

Oh and I love your tyre repair kit description - I forgot to order up the spare but I am prepared to take the risk as the spare would not be on a 17" wheel so I woud have to get it repaired or replaced asap if I ever had a puncture (and I am not the type to want to get my hands dirty changing a wheel either)

Hi Paul,

I'm also in the waiting for a fiesta queue, and like you I ordered Colerado Red!

I have a quickclear heated windscreen in my current fiesta, and have only had it get in the way when the sun catches it in a certain direction on blistering sunny days. Has only happened once or twice though, and even then its not a big deal. Other than that it's a life saver, especially when the snow and ice set in. (or when you've got a car full of people on a cold night and the windows steam up)

Cheers everyone, I appreciate your quick replies. :D

As I've never seen any other comments on this forum about the visibility through heated screens, I'm guessing that it's not a major issue, so I'm sure I'll soon adapt to it like everyone else. (I don't wear glasses or sunglasses so hopefully my main 'field of vision' will be on the road ahead and not on the actual windscreen).

And I'm sure you're right about the keys - a spare 'standard' key that didn't actually let you drive the car would be as much use as a waterproof tea bag.

Glad to hear from someone else who's also ordered a Colorado red car ... I was starting to get paranoid!

Thanks again,

Paul.

PS: Have just been notified that my car is due to be built between the 5th and 9th September - so should hopefully be at the dealers by the end of Sept, (fingers, toes and eyeballs crossed!!!) ... just hope the ship doesn't get hijacked en route!

Wow thats quick! I havn't even been given a rough date yet. I'm starting to wonder whether the couple extras I added are worth the wait. Is nice to have someone else who wanted Red. I think it looks amazing on the new Fiesta. Also the fact that it's turning out to be one of the rarer colours makes the car more unique, which is a good thing :)

Hi Paul - and welcome to the grand old "We're all waiting for our Fiesta's to be delivered" section! ;)

Ordered mine 30th June - expected mid/late October. I guess that's the downside of ordering the most popular small car

in Europe at the moment! I'm sure I'll be very happy with it when it does finally arrive - and it'll be worth the wait.

I get this funny feeling that there will be a huge bulk posting of photos on the forum in September/October as plenty of us

are due to take delivery around then. Only hope the server can handle the influx!

Welcome anyway mate. You'll find this lot on here very helpful & very knowledgeable in all-things Fiesta.

Hi Paul and welcome.

Let's hope you "We're all waiting for our Fiesta's to be delivered" people don't disappear from the forums once your cars arrive!

I plan on sticking around, especially when the car arrives. I almost think that coming here whilst it's due to arrive is making the waiting experience more of an ordeal though! :s

Good good. Will be worth the wait once you get it.

Many thanks for all the 'welcomes'. (It's always tough being the new kid in class!)

There aren't very many new-shape Fiestas in the Dumfries area yet, (I've been playing 'spot the Mk7' for weeks), although I'm sure we'll be overrun with them in a few week's time when all the '59'ers hit the road. I'm still happy with my choice of colour - as you say, there won't be quite as many red new-shape Fiestas on the road - at least for quite a while.

I'm hoping they can keep to the delivery date - this waiting is agony! (Trouble is, my old car's MOT is due on the 16th Sept, so I'm hoping it won't need too much doing to it. Shame to spend money on something that's going to be scrapped just a couple of weeks later).

As soon as I get my new car I'll also still be sticking around. I've really started to enjoy reading this forum. (As mentioned, along with a lot of other people no doubt, I'll post some photos as soon as possible when it arrives).

Apart from a Vauxhall Combo van, (which was for my business, so doesn't count), this will be my first 'private car' purchase for nearly eleven years, so I'm feeling quite excited at the prospect of having a shiny new motor parked on our driveway. I must admit, I couldn't have done it without the scrappage scheme ... at least that's one good thing that's come out of all the recent chaos.

Cheers,

Paul.

Have only seen one red one, it was a Zetec S, nice colour!

I ordered the blazer blue which like the red doesn't seem to be very common, I've only seen 1 since playing spot the MK7, as for the windscreen my wife says she can see them but like has been said it's only when you focus on them, I've not had any problems with them.

Hello Paul, glad to see another newbie waiting for his car LOL. As for your heated windscreen, I ordered one on my Zetec S as it's not standard, was worried about weather to get one or not and EVERYONE I spoke to that has had one on a Ford said get it. My sisters Galaxy is the current shape one and has it, I took a look the other day and you REALLY have to struggle to see the wires, I have also driven the car in bright sunshine with sunglasses on and didn't notice it at all.

Not sure about the car but here's the new shape Fiesta instruction manual:

I had the quickclear screen in my Ka and didn't want to be without it again - especially in Scotland! I very occasionally see the wires but causes me no problems.

I've only ever seen one colorado red one before it is nice. I would of had it but you can only have metallic paint on motability hire contract.

That was my line of thinking partly, the rest was because I saw one drive past me at a roundabout and decided then and there that I had to have it in that colour.

When it came to ordering, because I chose a zetec S with Leather seats and a couple other bits, I was told that I couldn't have Colerado Red. Something to do with production (the sales guy obviously didn't know why and had to come up with something). Had that battle for a fairly long while. In the end I got the Red I wanted, but had to pay the extra cost that applies to metallic anyway!
