treebor60
Really hope one of you guys can help me with my 2000 Focus 1.6 zetec petrol , i have just fitted a new water pump after the bearing collapsed and threw the belt off, i then flushed it through and started to refill with new coolant and after putting 2 ltr in the header tank showed at max. i then ran the car with the cap off ,the heater got hot but the radiator didn`t. I put the belt back on using a diagram i found on the net and the pump is an after market one from Bullseye , Could it be a bad air lock or could the belt be wrong and turning the pump the wrong way ????? i`m stuck so any help would be greatly appreciated. AdeMk1
Could be you got belt going the wrong way. From memory I think the pump pulley needs to be turning anticlockwise, if it isn't, the belt is routed incorrectly. Might be worth flushing the rad too just to be sure it isn't blocked. Dan62
FYI. Taken from the Ford TIS, well worth getting a copy if you have a windows PC. Acc_Drv.pdf Focus_Drain_Fill.pdf
stef123
I'm quite concerned an empty system only took 2 litres of coolant.
jeebowhite
Air lock is one part, it sounds like the reason the rad isn't getting hot is because the hot water isn't getting there to spread it. If I was you I would drain it again, flush it and run the engine with just water. Then see if that works as expected
gregers
just a possibility, dunno if these cars suffer from this problem but the galaxy does. within the return pipe is a little ball that becomes wedged in and stops the coolant from returning. might be worth a looksie?
