Paul.d
Hi All Does anyone know if the fob can be coded without going to a Ford dealer? I have a 02 plate Fiesta with one standard key and one key with built in fob and i would like a fob so it's quicker and easier to open the doors without putting the key in, it's my girlfriends car and she has the fob key, but we both use the car. I've looked on eBay and there are some for sale with instructions, but the dealers tell me it need's to be coded on their machine, which they are going to say. I'm not bothered about the key, but the fob would be ideal, especially when it's raining. I know it might sound a little sad, but when i'm rushing i don't want to have to explain to my girlfriend i've scratched her car. gaz6076
If the key starts the car but just doesn't lock/unlock the doors remotely then you can do it yourself; Get in the car and close all the door (don't lock them) With the key you want coded switch the ignition on/off 4 times within 6 seconds then leave off. You should now hear a bong/beep to confirm you are in programming mode Press any button on the key fob within 10 seconds of hearing the bong/beep and you will hear another bong/beep to confirm its programmed successfully. Switch ignition on for 10 seconds to exit programming mode.
Paul.d
Hi Thankyou for the reply, but i'm just wanting to clarify things. When we had a Corsa we could re-code a fob that had stopped working (lost it's code/link with the car), but if we bought a new fob it would have to be coded at the dealer. Is this the same for the Ford? Regards Paul
Paul.d
Sorry, i should clarify i am referring to the remote fob coding, as i know the key transponder/immobiliser chip would need to be coded by a dealer for the key to start the car Regards Paul
gaz6076
If the key with the remote fob starts the car but just doesn't unlock/lock the doors remotely (by pressing the buttons) the above procedure will work. If it doesn't start the car then you will need to programme it to the PATS (Immobiliser) first. There is a way to do this without taking it to the dealers but it doesn't always work and you need a key that is already programmed (starts the car)
Paul.d
Hi I looked in the manual last night and read the procedure for coding a new fob, so i've got one from Ford and i'm going to try that tonight. I have a remote key that starts the car and unlocks/locks the doors, but i want another one as cheap as possible. I also have a standard key with no fob that starts the car and would be happy to have a remote fob on my keyring just for opening the doors, hence the questions about coding just the remote fob and then use the standard key to start the car. I also read about coding a new key, but i'm a bit concerned about what will happen if it doesn't work or goes wrong and then no key will start the car. gaz6076
If you've already got two keys that start the car you can code another one no problem. Then code it so that it locks/unlocks the doors. If your coding a new key so that it will start the car (coding it to the immobliser or PATS) you must do all the keys at once. If it doesn't work you won't loose the ability to start the car with the already coded keys, you just won't have your new key working. When you code the keys to lock/unlock the doors you can do this indvidually. There is a maximum of 4 I think, could be more
Paul.d
Hi I've just coded my new remote fob to unlock/lock the doors, really easy works perfect. I have also managed to get hold of a more detailed explanation of how to code a new key, so i've ordered a blank from eBay and once i have got it cut i'll probably have a go at coding it myself. gaz6076
Coding the new fob to the immobiliser is easy also. If you have any problems with the instructions you have I can post detailed instructions on here. Remember you cant always code a new key to the PATS system without the diagnostic tool
Dani
Hi, Sorry to ask a question such a long time after the discussion has finished but i was wondering how hard it would be to programme a new key fob to the immobiliser. I seem to have the same issue as above........two non-remote keys and I have purchased a blank, 3 button remote key from eBay. I will obviously get the key cut and program it as the instructions above but will this allow it to work by itself without the assistance of my existing key (which has the immobiliser chip). Any feedback would be great. Thanks Dani
