try looking in the passenger foot well.behind the carpet at the connectors.you should see a black with orange strip wire ,if its one side of the plug and not the other then you know the wires not there to the wash bottle

Thanks for the tip.I will have a check tomorrow and see if its there. :)

My Mk2.5 Zetec doesn't have this to my knowledge, I ran out of washer fluid the other day and nothing except the lack of screen wash alerted me to this. Not sure that I can be bothered with retrofitting it though, seems like a lot of faff.

I find it annoying tbf... Pings and brings up the exclamation mark as if theres a major fault, always makes me jump!

Thinking about it though, I get through quite a bit of screenwash as I have the HID Xenons with headlight washers, wondered if it was only fitted to ones with Xenons maybe?

it doesnt come from the fuse box.it comes from the speedo connector and goes to the connector in the passenger footwell behind the carpet.

I pulled the carpet from the passenger side and I don't see any wire or plug

there is a thick rubber mating behind the carpet but I don't think I can move it

Here you go guys:

I have pinched a picture from eBay to avoid taking my car to bits again! This
tank is from a C Max but they are very similar.

Personally I found it easier to look for the plug and socket
in the top of the drivers wing (assuming right hand drive) near the washer
bottle itself. This is the end of the line for all of the required wiring. It caries
the wires for the washer pump and level sensor. The short loom that plugs into it
(clipped around the tank itself) is usually missing the wires to the level
sensor if your car has never had one. I recommend you try to get the “y” shaped
loom to feed both when you get your sensor or you will need to splice the wires
into the cars loom.

You can see the black washer pump on the left hand end, the float sensor in
the middle and the multi pin plug on the right hand end.

The best way of checking for sure is by taking off the front
drivers side wheel arch liner, you can then clearly see the tank fitted around
the wheel arch like a banana. If there is a level sensor fitted it will be
right in front of you, if not there is a very obvious flat spot in the moulding
than can be drilled out to take one. Taking off the wheel arch liner requires
removing the wheel for ease of access. When I did mine I took the tank right
out so I could give it a good clean.

I'm hopeing to get around this weekend to check mine for wiring at the bottle as I can't find any thing behind the carpet myself when I looked.

Weather has not been great and been late when I get in but hopefully I will get a chance and take a few pics in the process.

He fellas

Finally got a chance today to remove the wheel liner and take a look at the washer bottle.

Bad news for me is that I don't think I have the wiring installed. Only wires going to the washer bottle are for the pump and are colored yellow/black and white /black.

So next question is what do I need for this mod?

I know I need the float sensor with rubber washer and wiring plug but where do I run the new length of wire from the float sensor to and where do I connect it?

Thanks

If you pick up the new wiring loom (mine was coded 3M5T-F221050-BE and was from a c max not a focus but will work just as well) it replaces you existing wiring from the mulitpin plug attached to the tank that feeds the pump.

The new loom is "Y" shaped and feeds the pump and sensor, it is literally plug and play. have a look at the picture in my previous post and you will see it clipped to the tank along with some of the water pipes.

Right here we go I found this plug behind the passenger side kick panel

so I connected the low fluid sensor to the black with orange strip wire

and ground and it seems to work. I had to set it with elmconfig so I got the message

low fluid warning anyway I have put a link to the picture witch has a arrow showing the

black with orange strip wire can anyone confirm that this is the right plug thanks

I just had a look behind the passenger side kickplate and have spotted an orange and black wire in among the loom of wires. Is this the same on you wired to?

I think I only have it running into the top of the plug but it doesn't come out the bottom of it so I guess the float wire must Run from the washer bottle to this orange and black ?

yes that's the same as I had it just run it at the bottom of the plug

so I threaded a small wire tie though it to make sure it went though

a empty socket I connected the sensor to it and it seems to work ok

thats the right plug by the looks of it. just connect a wire in the emty hole in the other connector that doesnt have one run it through the fire wall up to the wash bottle.the float has to pins coming out you connect from the plug in foot well to one of the pins and the other pin goes to an earth point.dont make the hole in the bottle too big or you will get leaks.and thats it

Great job fellas

I was worrying I might not be fit to get this mod sinch not having the original wiring so very happy now lol!

Does any of you know what the correct thickness of wire is to use and where the best place to earth to is?

Would it be handy just to run two wires from the float to the passenger side and connect one to the orange /black and then ground the other at the passenger side footwell?

I will have to get some of this gathered up now and get started on this little mod. I take it the float just goes into the bottle where there is an kind of circular mark?

this is what I've done After I found the wire for the low fluid sensor I run a new wire from it to the big rubber grommet behind the fuse box in to the engine bay I put some silicon seal on the grommet to keep out any water I then run it over to d/side wing and connected to the bottle there is a handy earth connection under that wing so I took my ground of that as for the rubber grommet around

The switch I used a wash pump washer it cost £2.00 plus vat from ford they only sell that on its own you have to cut away the filter like mesh at the bottom of this rubber its not hard

If you want the sensor rubber you have to buy it all £48.00 + vat. I cut the hole in the side of the tank with a Rear Parking Sensors saw that you get with that kit. 20mm I think but test it first on an old plastic can antifreeze can is good hope this helps someone

made my connection pins out of two old power pack pins

off a desktop computer crushed them to right size then used shrink raps

on the wires connected them and fill the plug end with glue left to set then

put a big shrink rap around the hole thing works well
